3s-gtech Posted June 17, 2015 Posted June 17, 2015 Voltages - no. Mains is mains in the UK, 230V or so. I'm guessing that the new projector has a C13 input on it? With this adaptor, you won't have an earth running to the projector itself. Your PAT tester may fail this.

Seb1780 Posted June 17, 2015 Posted June 17, 2015 You will need to check if the device needs earthing; the adapter in the picture takes a two pin "figure 8" lead and converts it into a "kettle lead"; this will NOT be earthed. Damn; beaten to it

Smed Posted June 17, 2015 Posted June 17, 2015 (edited) i have them adapters on some of my projectors, pat tested fine! they still have 3 pins! live, neutral and earth.... edit! my mistake i was looking at the picture at the bottom, mine are kettle lead to clover lead! Edited June 17, 2015 by Smed
elsiegee40 Posted June 17, 2015 Posted June 17, 2015 (edited) If the projector only takes a two pin lead it does not need earthing... it's not rocket science. Two pins live and neutral. If it needed earthing, it would have one of the 3 pin variant connectors - clover, kettle or whatever. Edited June 17, 2015 by elsiegee40

6Foot2 Posted June 17, 2015 Posted June 17, 2015 We have a few of the kettle to clover leaf adaptors in use here for some of our projectors. We haven't seen any issues with those.
JATSO Posted June 17, 2015 Posted June 17, 2015 The Casio projector have a cloverleaf socket so we used them to covert kettle lead that was wired in with the old projector. They PAT test fine.
3s-gtech Posted June 17, 2015 Posted June 17, 2015 Cloverleaf has an earth pin. IEC C8 does not. In this case, the projector DOES have an earth pin, so I'd suggest it'd be prudent to connect it.

If I had known these were available it would have saved me changing the leads as it can be very time consuming when the lead comes down the middle of the pole and you have to remove the plug to get the cable out.

Seriously; if your projector has a 3 pin inlet, it will probably* need an earth connection. In this case, these adapters MUST NOT BE USED. They would be illegal* under PUWER, and HASAW. * Unless it says "Class 2" or has the double square symbol **and I don't mean "a little bit naughty" - I mean significant fines/possible jail time for your head/head of governors etc in the event of an accident. 2
Tesla Posted June 18, 2015 Author Posted June 18, 2015 i dont even see a class 1 thing on the projector, ah well. We shall use it as our new projector (with the correct cable!) for training in the hall, the one we use for that is way past it's sell by date.
Andrew_C Posted June 18, 2015 Posted June 18, 2015 Just a thought; if you are having projectors installed, it might make sense to insist on 3 core cable and IEC (C13) connectors being installed, and IEC to C5 or C7 adaptors used to connect to the projector. That way, when the projector is replaced, a new adaptor is all that is needed. Earthing is provided where appropriate. For those confused by connector numbering, see here.
