Autodesk Inventor - Has anyone installed this software?

I have deployed throughout the school, (use the 2013 version if your PCs are not at least i5 w 4GB, 2014 is very hungry and will run terribly, I'd still recommend you use 2013)

 

Anyhow setup a deployment share (about 2.3GB) and the licensing server (at the same time the MSI will look for the server) but I've never deployed it, I just used it as part of a thick image. There is a deployable version for education btw don't use the individual student version. The proper school version won't put the academic watermark over prints etc. And licenses from the server can be "borrowed" (the actual term) for offline PCs. (Teacher laptops)

 

EDIT: btw you can configure the 32 bit and 64bit deployable on any workstation but you can only install the 32bit or 64bit version on the respective version of windows.

Is is package downloaded unique to the Customer? I can send you my copy?

That would be amazing if you could - I don't think it's unique as I've got serial numbers sent to me.

We also deployed Inventor 2015 out as part of a thick image using a license server.

 

It's on my list of "things to try pushing out" but it's massive (approx 7.6GB) and has a lengthy pre-requisites list so it's not actually urgent.

 

Look in the "SMS_SCCM scripts" folder for silent install switches and dependencies.

Only had 20 machines to deploy Inventor 2015 to, installed license server and software share deployed manually as I haven't got round to creating an install package yet but it is a one click installation.

 

Works well but as has been stated hungry for resources (Ours are 4GB dual core's) and the file sizes are astronomical so be prepared!!

Yes and it was a pain to get working. If i remember correctly, it needs to be set up to run on a network so the licences are validated via the server. We also had a GFX compatabiliy issue but it was eventually resolved via an update. You can run the updates during the install process if you do it manually.

 

We didn't deploy it over the network on CC4 despite a few tries as it just died so i manually installed it instead. As the installation File is huuuge it took ages to install locally, there's a lot of bloatware to install.

 

I'd also recommend usung decent specced PC's running x64 bit OS to take full advantage of the recommended amount of RAM.

Digging up this old thread as we have been asked to install Inventor. Just looked at the recommended specs for 2016 version. Core i7 and 16GB RAM. Our laptops are nowhere near that.

Anyone got this working on lower spec machines?

we deployed 2014 manually to a suite of 20. wasnt worth us bulking our image out for. seems ok on i3 4GB ram but i guess i never use it. there is a difference between just loading the software to see if it works and actually using the software but never receive any complaints.

 

guess it would also depend on the patience and expectancy of your staff and students. our staff have come to terms that they are not likely going to get a whole new suite of i5/i7 computers loaded with 8GB+

Having looked at the hardware spec, I went with the 2013 version. I did a admin install to our repository, and then manually installed on the D&T computers. I will be modifying out build configuration so that it can be installed as part rebuild.

Hi All,

 

I've been asked by the PD department to install Autodesk 2014 on their computers in the PD suite. We've purposefully upgraded the machines to SSD's and 8GB of RAM so they are up to the task of running this large software, as well as running other software too. As a test I installed it on one machine. The installation process ran smoothly, however, when it came to running the Autodesk Inventor application it gave me the following error: "The application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000142)" I researched this error and other forums have suggested that it's a compatibility issue. That the version of Autodesk I'm running won't work on Windows 8.1 and is only compatible with Windows 8. They suggested to install the SP1 patch and that still came up with the same error message. I opened up a ticket with Autodesk, to see if we can get a fresh license as I assumed that this may be the issue. I sent them a screenshot of the error and they sent me the following link: https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/autocad/troubleshooting/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/The-application-was-unable-to-start-correctly-0xc0000142.html . This link consisted of possible causes and solutions to help resolve the isssue. However, despite going through each suggested solution, it's proved fruitless.
