Who are you getting your SSL certs from at the moment? I would like one that has the chain on pretty much any platform - Windows, Mac, iOS, Android. One of our GoDaddy certs isn't valid on iOS which is annoying

GoDaddy & StartSSL at the moment.

 

GoDaddy is cheap and effective* but annoys me because, well, it's GoDaddy and all the drama that entails.

 

StartSSL has that funky SHA1 intermediate cert if you're using the free version.

If you're willing to pay (unlimited subdomains) they ask you to send scanned copies of (passport/driving license) to them, which falls under "Nope" (for me at least).

They are (IME) very responsive to queries and reasonable requests however.

 

A couple of people have mentioned gogetssl.com and namecheap.com, but poking around web hosting forums for decent reviews is just painful.

 

 

 

*I'd be interested in knowing which GoDaddy cert is triggering iOS to be unhappy, just in case it's biting us but everyone assumes I know and so haven't mentioned it.

I use Namecheaps certs, PositiveSSL provided by Comodo.

I got a Wildcard SSL from 123-reg does the job and a good price.

I recently got a SAN certificate (domain and three subdomains) from our local RBC (even though we don't use them) and they got it through Janet. Signed by Terena. £100 for three years.

I get ours via our local authority, who go via Janet, who go via Terena. £40 for 3 years for us.

I use Namecheaps certs, PositiveSSL provided by Comodo.

 

We do the same. Never had any issues with Namecheap, Comodo or the certificates.

GoDaddy for us for hundreds of certificates for us, we have had a couple of issues with the latest iOS update rejecting some older Go Daddy certs that are not SHA256 but a simple re-issue fixed that and the issues went away and tbh you should be re-keying old certs not in SHA-256 for security.

Xilo seem very cheap for wildcard certs. Almost "wait, what am I missing here?" cheap.

We used RapidSSL for a wildcard cert.

I wouldn't hesitate on recommending https://www.cbtsolutions.net/index.asp we got wildcard alphassl who use VeriSign certificate for about £50 a year

Just as a data point, I've just used Namecheap and from buy it > install cert was under ten minutes. That's a new record.
