Papercut MF costs?

Hi Everyone,

 

Going into a meeting this morning over our printing costs, I'm sick to death of uniflow, and so far the yearly support costs for uniflow look like more than the cost of buying papercut ng and then some, can someone PM me some rough figures for papercut MF?

 

Also how does it work, do you buy papercut ng + optionals, and then add mf on top? Is it per copier? Is it a license that goes into ng and per copier?

Have you already got pull-printing on the devices? If so, you probably don't need any further costs - just the basic MF package.

 

If you don't already have, then some manufacturers (maybe all?) need further licenses from them, to 'switch on' certain functionality. Sharp needs OSA Embedded License for example.

We currently use uniflow with canon meap software on them for secure print etc. So i guess the answer is yes. Just been in my meeting with the business manager, we may potentially be trapped in a contract for the uniflow support for the next 2 years >_< if we can get out of that though then i'm jumping ship to papercut asap (pending trial and testing of course)

 

EDIT: Oh that's not the only rage inducing news....turns out we could have had printing costs a 3rd of the cost per print that we currently have had , had we not been forced into uniflow (one persons fault!)

You need PaperCut MF License and then a license for each MFP device.

MF & NG are 2 separate products, MF for multi function.

 

Get a look at the demo site here. That is the product on a remote server, what you see is what you get.

My quote from one of their main resellers is just one license for the software?

 

(I've already got Sharp embedded license from them, but that's not Papercut-specific)

Yeah, you have a license for PaperCut MF (based on number of users), and then additional licenses on top of it for each MFP device.

It's one cost but all based on number of users (education get this at a steal compared to commercial), the number of copiers and their type plus support which then generates the license. 1st year support is mandatory this is classed as PUA.

It seems there’s some good answers on here already, but I can add a little more.

The basic difference between PaperCut NG and PaperCut MF is that NG will track any network printer on a PaperCut controlled print server, whereas MF extends the NG functions to also include your copy/fax/scan/print release style services at the MFD.

For NG, licensing is based on the number of users. MF is users and MFDs you would like to control for copy/fax/scan/print release on. There are *some*exceptions to this (connectors to PayPal or other online payment systems comes to mind) but not many.

Thank you all for the answers :) We have someone coming in to take a look at our copiers so he can give us a more accurate quote for what it would cost us to switch to papercut. Shockingly dropping just one part of the two part support costs for uniflow could pay for papercut ng and then some, so I'm hoping we might be able to switch over this year if we can drop all the uniflow support costs from our contract.

Should I be approaching PaperCut directly for MF licenses to go on the copiers and sorting out what adjustments (licences/firmware?) need to be made on the copiers or would you normally expect the copier company (once instructed "we use PaperCut MF, make sure your copiers work with it") would do the legwork around getting pricing and integration?

 

A certain multi-national copier manufacturer was very surprised when we asked about MF.

Most of the copier companies themselves don't really know anything about Papercut (well, their regional sales people don't anyway). I deal with a Papercut reseller directly in the UK instead (ITS Ltd). Some of the MFD resellers know and support Papercut though.

The company we used handled it all. They purchased the license on our behalf, and it's costed in to the solution they provide.

Yeah, we have NG and the finance dept are jealous of all the whizzy graphs and accounting I have for the print side of things. Incumbent copier company made noises about MF integration but after chasing them for three months we've come to the conclusion they're either unwilling to add MF mid-contract or are hoping we'll use their software instead.

 

Next refresh we'll be specifying MF or no sale.
