Hi,

Im speccing up a new server and i was wondering how many disks i should go for?, 3 or 5?. This will be used as a VMware Host with multiple VM`s. The main one being a fileserver. So looking at a minimum of 2tb storage space

Thanks in advance

Not for a VM Host machine. You have to go One Big Raid 10. Raid 6 is not good for write speed due to dual parity.

You don't *have* to at all. Its all about weighing up speed/disk(space) cost and fault tolerance. Raid 6 could be the best solution for the environment.

Yes sorry for using the phrase "Have", no does not need to go with OBR10. We need to know what Maxrebo means by "multiple VM's" a rough number would be good to know also what applications\services they will be handling.

Hi,

Thanks for your replies, i think there will probably be around 4 VM`s on, One used for Office 365 DIRSYNC, another as a file server and another 2 yet be be decided.

I think i will go for 5 disks.

Cheers
