Could anyone recommend a good A4 laser or inkjet printer that is fast, has the ability to print on envelopes and is perfect for a school office? Just bought a Kyocera and sending it back due it's atrocious rubbishness.

Seem good enough. Epson have been avoided with barge poles! Kyocera was my favourite in the past... Never had problems with them! 1
Geoff Posted April 13, 2015 Posted April 13, 2015 (edited) We use HP printers when we absolutely have to, otherwise we are leasing Ricoh photocopiers. We are standardizing on HP non host based laser printers. For the sort of office you are talking about, this'd be a P2055dn. Better would be a P3005dn. Edited April 13, 2015 by Geoff 1
MrLudwig Posted April 13, 2015 Posted April 13, 2015 Another vote for Kyocera here, we currently have an HP Pro M551 in our Admin office but wish we'd gone for another Kyocera FS-C5350 which we have in other places. These have been real workhorses and not caused us any problems. Just bought a Kyocera and sending it back due it's atrocious rubbishness. Out of interest which Kyocera printer have you had problems with?
psydii Posted April 14, 2015 Posted April 14, 2015 (edited) Time to do a time and motion study. We decided here it was better to get a HP 401 for the a4 printing demands and use 'avery' labels for addresses. The office team can then gun through an entire year group in a few minutes, far faster than most printer can print to envelopes. The big print runs still tend to be done on an MFD rated for that sort of continuous workload. However if I were doing an office refit this year I'd probably use a couple of the Kyocera fs-c5350 (or there replacement the p7000 series) and a document scanning station rather than an office MFD. but that might not be physically possible in some offices. elsiegee40 Posted April 14, 2015 Posted April 14, 2015 In our case, the easiest option was to sort out proper templates for the school stationery and scrap envelope printing altogether. I made the Word templates by the way; it didn't take long... just be careful to make sure that the continuation page is different to the first page We now buy window envelopes. Like @psydii, we print labels for the few occasions when a windowless envelope is used. We had HP P2055dn in the office until we went for a MFP. The latter's stapling skills more than make up for its failure to deal with envelopes quickly. 2

It was the FS-C5150DN... - - - Updated - - - Huge thanks for all your posts and advice everyone. I'm possibly going to look at a different model of Kyocera and take the risk- you're giving them glowing reviews so they must be pretty good!

mark100 Posted April 14, 2015 Posted April 14, 2015 I've found colour Kyocera are rubbish compared to their mono counterparts. Got rid of all our Kyocera colour printer. If you don't need colour would recommend FS-2100DN
mikkydoos Posted April 15, 2015 Posted April 15, 2015 Not got a copier in the office ? I'd say don't shop for the printer, shop for the consumables cos some of them are really expensive. Not just toner but imaging drums, photoconductor units, waste toner bottles, fusers etc etc. Avoid newer models that the compatibles market hasn't caught up with
psydii Posted April 15, 2015 Posted April 15, 2015 Both the Kyocera and the HPs talked about have virtually no maintenance. Basically once they've done 400k pages, buy a new one. It has been a while since I built a cost comparison model, but they worked out the most cost effective devices available (at the time).

The FS-C5350 has been replaced with the P6030cdn... one handy thing to note is that the new model uses the same TK560 toners! This is obviously a bit bloody handy if you have some of the old model already. edit: Additionally the FS-C5150 has been replaced with the P6021 (TK580 in both) and the FS-C5250 has been replaced with the P6026 (TK590 in both). ataylor Posted April 15, 2015 Posted April 15, 2015 We are running with 5 Konica printers across our site using Pull to me printing. Not the cheapest solution but I never have to touch the things. (Slightly different model) They are getting a little old now though, their contract ends late next year.
