Hi all;

In preparation for Spring 2015 Capita has recommended to go to SOLUS 3.9 prior to doing this

Is it a straight forward deploy to 3.9 (I'm a few version behind on 3.7.161) or do I need to do anything else?

Thanks all!

Relatively straight forward. Set the update to go then close the SOLUS GUI so it has the opportunity to upgrade too. Check back in after 20 minutes or and all should be good.

Thanks Sylv3r

kicked it off early in the morning, not long after most PCs upgraded, smooth as butter, got nice manual deploy tab on the client too (improvement from 3.7)

Will bed this in and maybe do Spring 2015 next week, hopefully cover my back if they release another update!

Does SOLUS3 allow users to pull the update down yet (ala SOLUS2) as well as the server pushing them out? This is the main reason we haven't updated yet... Thanks :)

I assume you mean when they launch SIMS? If so then yes, when they launch sims it will check the SOLUS server and download the latest update.

Yes it does, if they open the agent, they can click on "Check for update" - If there is an update available it will pull it down to deploy and if the update is already installed it will ask them if they want to reinstall.

From the 3.8 autumn release notes: "If you are running SOLUS 3.8 (or later) and the SIMS 2014 Autumn Release (or later), and you attempt to run SIMS or FMS and the version of the client does not match that of the corresponding database, SOLUS identifies this and offers the you the option of carrying out the upgrade now or at a later date."

@rpycroft Between 3.8 and 3.9, I think Capita fixed or added features that address most of the annoyances with Solus 3 ;) At least, having moved to solus3 very early, and needing to do a lot of babysitting - solus3 seems to almost be an adult now ;) I'd probably be inclined to think it's worth looking to move off solus 2 now.

@minimoo - that's brilliant thanks so much for the info. Apologies for hijacking this thread. Hmm, might give SOLUS3 a go then... I also tried it out early on and it was a real PITA. I said I wouldn't install it until we were able to configure it so that when the end user ran SIMS it would check first if there was a more up to date version. I'm sorry but getting the user to check with the agent if there's an update before they just click the SIMS icon just isn't going to happen.

Cheers everyone :)

If you do struggle with Solus3 failing tolerance levels on the database - check you've enough disk space for the automatic backup to take place.

The actual failure reason is hidden in a log file but I keep banging my head on a brick wall over it till I work it out. Hopefully it's now drilled in my head enough to remember next time.

Re upgrading SOLUS, I couldn't get SOLUS to upgrade itself from 3.7.x as the SOLUS database wasn't at a certain level (it was!) - so I downloaded the msi's from Capita and put it on manually.
