ID Cards in Schools

Looking at ID cards in schools, all our staff have them already - looking at design ideas.

 

Anyone willing to post their designs?

A uniform doesn't stop dodgy ones. In my old school a student from another school got a uniform for ours, walked in the building and set the fire alarm off!

All staff and sixth form students have one here. Pretty simple really, academy logo, mugshot, name and job title.

It is on topic. Its demonstrating that a uniform is not a replacement for ID cards. The experience I posted proves this. The topic is directly discussing the use of ID cards by students. Even a poll asking that. Besides since when did i say anything about identity theft?

Staff and Students (and Governors) here. As it's used for printing release and cashless catering all in one

Staff and 6th formers have them here. It incorporates a barcode to enter the building and record we are onsite

We're a college and staff, students and governors have them. They have your photo, name, "rank" (staff/student/governor) and a barcode. I don't know what the barcode is used for. There is also a magnetic stripe which is used by the ASSA locks and a chip which is used by the Paxton locks. The chip will also be used by follow-me printing in the next few days.

I actually added Gamer!Luna as a test for the photo part... Except nobody uses photos and Luna is best.

 

My old one had an actual picture and it looked like a mugshot.

Something simple.. ours are made in house printed and laminated. Staff only.

Staff, Students (all of them), Governors and certain choice contractors who have been vetted and checked with limited access. We use Paxton Mifare cards for use with follow me printing, catering, door access with a barcode for Inventry sign in for lates and sixth form registration.

 

They have the school badge on, rank, photo (students love to scrub that bit off), barcode and are colour coded with a boarder round the photo and colour coded lanyard and holder to denote staff, visitor or year. All printed in house with an Evolis card printer.

 

On a side note yes its lengthy to setup and a pain when the new Year &'s start as the cards have to be setup within a day as our buildings are all spread out with door access. Final note we print about 5 new cards a week from lost or damaged cards from students with 920 on roll.

I wonder, does anybody who uses magstripe cards for their cashless catering double them up as ID badges for their students? That might be useful, I reckon? (As well as killing two birds with one stone, it would help prevent kids stealing lunch money, so to speak.)

Another school I know of does something like that, but no idea how as I never really asked..

 

I want card-entry doors here, then I'll be happy. Students don't have ID cards so if the doors automatically locked that'd solve the issue of teachers leaving their rooms unlocked..

 

I can only imagine student ID cards being defaced, ruined etc - unless they have a specific use (doors/catering) then I don't like the idea of them.

How? They'd have to leave their card in the door (Gets stolen) or take it out (Gets locked again) or use it as a key to lock/unlock (Room left unlocked)

 

I'd think student ID cards below college-level would definitely be defaced.. Photos scratched off, an impromptu meeting with a belt sander, mandatory penis drawings, etc.

We do things strangely here... We have 2 cards.

 

The barcode one is just a bit of plastic, it gets shredded when the staff member leaves. We also have a blank proximity card for doors and PaperCut that get setup for a specific member of staff to use, but they get unassigned and reissued when they leave.

That's not that weird.. Well. Kinda is. What actually is the purpose of the bar code? Your proximity cards are basically just RFID keyfobs by a different shape, so nothing unusual there. Apart from using them on PaperCut, that's pretty cool. If we could get something like that it'd save a whole tonne of wasted printing.

 

ID cards for the students here would just not go down well, I suspect.. I reckon half of them would balls up the cashless catering if it wasn't biometric.

What actually is the purpose of the bar code?

 

Barcode based digital sign-in for staff and visitors. [And pupils if we want it]

 

Visitors get a paper badge issued and it takes a photo when they sign-in.

We do mandatory ID cards for staff only here. Students can get an ID card if they want to use the canteen though, but they're not compulsory school-wide. The main problems with them is the kids losing them, or staff killing their cards somehow.
