kennysarmy Posted March 25, 2015 Posted March 25, 2015 So what monitor do you and your technicians have? We've all got standard 19" screens, but I'm thinking of upgrading them all - the 19's can then be re-used on teachers desks for those with just 17's.

sonofsanta Posted March 25, 2015 Posted March 25, 2015 Random 17" from about 8 years ago what were lying around. They don't even match. I've never quite been able to justify spending the money on us to upgrade. Two widescreen monitors feels like I'm spoiling myself (I am not going back to single monitor). If I really need to Photoshop something well, I'll move to the computers round the corner with their 23" IPS 1080p monitors.
unixman_again Posted March 25, 2015 Posted March 25, 2015 We all have 19" monitors. I've got a pair of Samsung SyncMasters and I'm the only person in the office with a matching pair. We all used to have a pair of these when we had Dell Optiplexs, but when we "upgraded" to Millennium PCs, the graphics card had a vga and an hdmi port, so everyone finished up with odd monitors. Everyone except me, who decided to take the video card out of the Dell.

pcstru Posted March 25, 2015 Posted March 25, 2015 I have some generic 24" 1920x1200 thing surrounded by a pair of 19" 1280x1024 generic things. Technicians vary, usually a pair of widescreen 21" at 1080. If they ask for a specific set-up, they generally get it.

I was once asked why I have three monitors, the simple answer is because I can't easily accommodate more! For me it is just a fact that : > desktop = better. I often have two reference documents open either side with something I'm working on in the middle. At home where I have 3 24in monitors, there are some tasks in blender where I will use all the available space (RHS nodes/materials, middle 3D edit main layers, left=3d edit hidden layers), although the home set-up was bought for iRacing. It does take a while to get used to working that way, but once you do it is a huge constraint to go back to having less desktop space.
