sparkeh Posted March 20, 2015 Posted March 20, 2015 Interesting test to see where you are politically compare to the population. Election 2015: How close are you to the political centre? - BBC News I am a lefty, which doesn't surprise me.
tmcd35 Posted March 20, 2015 Posted March 20, 2015 I'm typically a lefty, but this had be 5 points to the right. But then again, there's only 5 questions and a lot can be said about how you interpret them. The first question, about redistribution of wealth, is probably what done it. My answer to that probably had me as an ultra-right wing flag waving nut job. Neither the wording of the question - or my answer to the question based on how it was worded - anywhere near reflect what I actually feel on the subject.
X-13 Posted March 20, 2015 Posted March 20, 2015 (edited) As with handwriting, so it is with politics. Lefty4Lyfe The first question, about redistribution of wealth, is probably what done it. The correct answer is "jog on, mate". Edited March 20, 2015 by X-13
hardtailstar Posted March 20, 2015 Posted March 20, 2015 apparently im a lefty too. I couldn't care for politics. One creates a mess and the other makes a mess cleaning up the mess.
sparkeh Posted March 20, 2015 Author Posted March 20, 2015 Although not very detailed, these questions have been asked every year since 1986 and its interesting to see how society has changed. In the Blair years I would have been considered a centrist. Now I am a lefty.
LeMarchand Posted March 20, 2015 Posted March 20, 2015 The CIA have already called to inform me of my impending execution for supporting Communism...
tech_guy Posted March 20, 2015 Posted March 20, 2015 Goddamitt, it's branded me a fascist. Don't they know I'm a card-carrying Marxist!? And the BBC Quiz of the week's news is bedangled - get all seven right and it tells you you only scored six! What is the BBC up to?
localzuk Posted March 20, 2015 Posted March 20, 2015 Yup, lefty here (shock, horror!). Score of 6. Hurray!

clockend25 Posted March 20, 2015 Posted March 20, 2015 I got nine. Not the most in-depth set of questions though.
CAM Posted March 20, 2015 Posted March 20, 2015 I scored 17/25 far from centre in any year. Apparently I am a right-wing? 0.o
unixman_again Posted March 20, 2015 Posted March 20, 2015 BBC says I'm a lefty, which I knew. X-13s quiz says I'm a centrist

featured_spectre Posted March 20, 2015 Posted March 20, 2015 Personal Issues Government should not censor speech, press, media, or internet. < Agree Military service should be voluntary. There should be no draft. < Disagree - Sweden and Germany have instituted the draft effectively. Either a draft for 2 years or civil service for 2 years should be mandatory. There should be no laws regarding sex for consenting adults. < Agree - If there is consent it is fine. I am assuming this is leaning towards homosexuality. Repeal laws prohibiting adult possession and use of drugs. < Maybe - Some drugs should be considered for medical uses, and others should be prohibited. Needs closer attention, however Portugal legalised many class A drugs and has seen a decline in crime figures as it can be attained through pharmacies and GPs and there is a good system to get people away from the drugs. There should be no National ID card. < Disagree. Bring them in. We already have National Insurance cards, step it up a notch to full ID cards which covers public library uses, concessionary travel (if applicable) and as a valid form of ID. Economic Issues End "corporate welfare." No government handouts to business. - I agree. Especially for banking. End government barriers to international free trade. - Maybe. Some taxation and levies should be set for importing and exporting, but thats it. Otherwise, let there be trade. Let people control their own retirement; privatize Social Security. - Yes. Everyone should pay into a pension pot for when they're older, however, they should be going into special accounts which money cannot be drawn from until 65 or older, and everyone pays in regardless of the job they do and the wage they earn. Minimum amount should be 5% of the wage. Replace government welfare with private charity. - Disagree. Welfare has its uses, but it should be limited to a period of time. No more than 6 months for Job Seekers etc. Cut taxes and government spending by 50% or more. - Maybe. Depends on the taxes and spending. Healthcare, Military and Education needs increases in spending, but other sections could be cut. Car tax should be cut and road tax should be cut, but then fuel duty should be increased so you pay for what you use only.
ICTDirect_Dave Posted March 20, 2015 Posted March 20, 2015 Scored 13 on the BBC so right down the middle and rather left at 80 personal / 10 economics on the other one. The questions were rather leading however. I'd say I've been left of centre my whole life, but as you get older and have kids a little more right-wing views creep in. I'll always be around the middle however, taking each situation on it's merits.
sparkeh Posted March 20, 2015 Author Posted March 20, 2015 I'd say I've been left of centre my whole life, but as you get older and have kids a little more right-wing views creep in. Opposite for me, age + kid = more left-wing sparkeh
tmcd35 Posted March 20, 2015 Posted March 20, 2015 Soo, BBC think I'm a UKIP infiltrator and these guys put me on the nearest Greenpeace ship.... I'll leave it to you to decide which one I is closest to the truth...
X-13 Posted March 20, 2015 Posted March 20, 2015 I'll leave it to you to decide which one I is closest to the truth... You're a double agent.
