localzuk Posted June 15, 2015 Author Posted June 15, 2015 Swish I hope none of it's damaged.. The (bitzy) objective markers felt like they might suffer a bit of damage 'cause of the long, thin plastic, but I did my best to wrap them up nice-like. I'll be having a look when I get home. Fingers crossed! They are like Space Marines but more awesome. Which legion did you pick? I've gone Crimson Slaughter for my first legion. Second legion will be Thousand Sons I think!
CAM Posted June 15, 2015 Posted June 15, 2015 I don't know anything about Crimson Slaughter. Thousand Sons is all about sealed walking suits of armour (no exposed flesh!) that are hard to kill and pour out massed Bolter fire. They are lead by Sorcerers that dominate the psychic phase in the name of Tzeentch!
halbaradkenafin Posted June 15, 2015 Posted June 15, 2015 Another week of Mordheim and another player discovers that Skaven are a tough foe to beat at times. It was a simple game of Surprise Attack with about 6 skaven on the board to start with (all spread out) and 11 Orcs. I pulled back a little with the models that I could to avoid being charged early and had 2 slings on a first floor building, he advances and can't do much else. I get a few more models in turn 2 and pull back a little more and throw some stones to no effect. He closes in on some of my models with plans to charge next turn. I get a hero appearing behind his orcs and within charge range of a straggler (thanks Animosity), throw a few more skaven into fights with Orcs (2v1 where possible) and throw some more slings and take out his leader and another hero with 2 criticals in a row, he basically concedes there but we play out the rest of the turn and I kill his straggler and to prevent losing more in the other combat just concedes. There was some discussion after this among a few of us about how the game had went, the general consensus was that it was probably my victory before we'd even started my turn 1 as he'd clumped all his models up (sort of sensible as I can't charge them without lots of counter charges) and I was able to easily outmaneuver him due to higher movement and Animosity (only 2 models effected so not a huge impact especially with one of them being turn 1 where I couldn't take advantage of that) and I had some models above ground level where he couldn't reliably get to them (Initiative test to climb walls). I didn't gain much in game from the game but it reinforced how much more tactically I have to play than most of the other warbands if I want to stand a reasonable chance of winning, though 9 slings does help a lot as there isn't much shooting in the other warbands (witch hunters who I've beaten twice and a dwarfs who I haven't played yet).
Duranis Posted June 16, 2015 Posted June 16, 2015 I've really wanted to get into playing tabletop games for ages (have a ton of Dark elf stuff for fantasy and Tau for 40k) but there seem to be very few places nearby me that people play and nobody I know has the slightest interested. Searching around online and all the local clubs I have come across seem to be completely inactive. There is a local gaming shop that seems to play Malifaux fairly often though so thinking of getting into that (plus the models look like they will be a lot of fun to paint).
Garacesh Posted June 16, 2015 Posted June 16, 2015 Or you could buy my 'nids army? lol. Truth be told that's the same reason I'm leaving 40k. I don't play. I either have to lug my stuff on the bus for 10 mins one way to end up in a tiny shop that often I'm not able to get a game in, or an hour the other way to get to the centre of Manchester where there's a huge shop but it's an hour's trip each way! So I tend to not bother..
CAM Posted June 18, 2015 Posted June 18, 2015 Went up against a 30k Mechanicum army last night. Fleshbane template weapons everywhere, the Wych Cult bounced.
CAM Posted June 22, 2015 Posted June 22, 2015 Bounced again, twice! My league list collapses halfway through the game without fail. Can't figure out what I am doing wrong. However, started work on the Wraithknight. Already adding spiky bits and two large Aethersails on the back to replace the jet pack. Can't wait to put it on the table at some point.
thepridster Posted June 22, 2015 Posted June 22, 2015 Pics or didn't happen sounds great im having a big 30k game this sunday at warhammer world should be fun

Even with 'quitting' Warhammer (though part of me things I may pick it up again later on down the line...) I still want to convert a Wraithknight.
CAM Posted June 30, 2015 Posted June 30, 2015 Age of Sigmar coming out on Saturday. Impressive models for Chaos, not so sure on the new Sigmar faction. Fantasy Spess Mehreens! The rules were leaked on Reddit and people are losing their minds over Warhammer is dead based on starter kit simplified rules. >.<
sonofsanta Posted June 30, 2015 Posted June 30, 2015 The fun thing about Warhammer is that old rules are printed on paper and Games Workshop don't have any legal basis to walk into your house and burn them in front of you*. If you don't like the new rules, don't play them. *much to their chagrin, I imagine.
localzuk Posted June 30, 2015 Author Posted June 30, 2015 Had another game this weekend. Played 1000 pts Chaos vs Space Marines. Lost 5-8, so not as bad as last time when I was annihilated. Need to get myself some Obliterators and some more Rhinos, and some more Helbrutes so I can create a formation of them. My housemate is kinda miffed that the new Space Marine codex came out so soon after we started playing the game again. He only bought it 3 months ago.
Garacesh Posted June 30, 2015 Posted June 30, 2015 I had someone from Reddit buy my entire 'nids army to start a friend off with 40K (Poor guy lol) so I now no longer have a rulebook. Consider me completely 'out' of 40K now, to my dismay. But the hobby has just become too expensive now, I'm not playing enough, and they're really starting to milk the cow now, 'updating' codices seemingly for the sake of it, removing units (re: legal battle mentioned earlier), etc. It's just not something I can justifiably be part of anymore. Though I'm still tempted to convert a Wraithknight, just for decoration, because those things look awesome.
CAM Posted June 30, 2015 Posted June 30, 2015 I need to shift my old Space Marines still, and maybe some Guard. Got Orks as well to go! I'd rather focus on Eldar at the moment (all three minus Forge World variants).
Garacesh Posted June 30, 2015 Posted June 30, 2015 As sceptical as I was, I actually had a lot of success from /r/miniswap. Might be worth checking out. Everyone I dealt with was happy to PayPal me the money first (as a payment, so PayPal took its cut, grumble, but the buyer was protected) and then once I'd dispatched it, gift me the P&P when I sent them a photo of the receipt. Most of them wanted some photos first but that's reasonable.
CAM Posted June 30, 2015 Posted June 30, 2015 Interesting Age of Sigmar snippets: - Rules are now included with models. Finally! - Strength and Toughness is gone, weapons determine the result needed to inflict damage. - Weapons modify Saves. - Break tests carried out end of turn based on number of models slain versus bravery and a bonus every 10 models. - WS and BS is gone. To Hit is determined by a flat roll. - Square or round bases don't matter but expect new models to come with round. A very interesting insight into GW future plans? I'd love to see army books for 40k snuffed out in favour of rules in the box. The whole thing is streamlined too and taking a very different path to it's sister game!
Garacesh Posted June 30, 2015 Posted June 30, 2015 S/T/WS/BS gone? Um. Wut. How on earth does that work? Close combat WS vs WS was an incredibly good system (a much better trained melee combatant would be able to predict, dodge and parry your attacks), and BS was fair as far as I saw it, too, (You were less likely to land a shot if you were turd with firearms. Makes sense, no?) S vs T was never the best system, but combined with AP, certainly not the worst.

Was there also something about Heroes being much more important, to the point that the "units" are more there to get cut down by the heroes? I had a quick look at the spoiler pictures at the weekend and I kind of like the Chaos models but I'm not sold on the "empire" (or whatever they'll be called) models, way too much like space marines.
CAM Posted June 30, 2015 Posted June 30, 2015 @Garacesh: I don't think Warhammer uses AP but instead relies on Save Modifiers which is making a return apparently in Age of Sigmar. Got an EMail from a friend, keep an eye on the GW site. All unit cards for existing units along with the four-page starter rules will be available on the website for free along with a free model in White Dwarf. Uhhhh suddenly I think my weekend might not be as free as planned....
Garacesh Posted June 30, 2015 Posted June 30, 2015 Oh, is this rules for Warhammer Fantasty, not Warhammer 40,000? M'bad!
CAM Posted July 6, 2015 Posted July 6, 2015 Oooooh tasty news! Hoping for a return to big battles. Also check my Twitter, I posted some DA Fallen conversions on there.
thepridster Posted July 6, 2015 Posted July 6, 2015 I hope they either A) make it like total war b) bring back base building but keep the every unit matters for certain race's gameplay e.g. marines but take the rest back to the original games!
localzuk Posted July 6, 2015 Author Posted July 6, 2015 Almost managed to get the following together now: 2 squads of Obliterators 1 Defiler 1 Helbrute Murderpack (5x Helbrutes all as one unit). 1 Ahriman HQ I think I may now be able to take on my housemate's Centurions! They're a right pain the arse.
CAM Posted July 6, 2015 Posted July 6, 2015 Those Murderpacks are evil, but I wiped the smile off an opponent's face when he dropped 3 in the midst of my Scions and I took two of them down in a turn of shooting with Plasma Guns pointed at their backs.
