6-7 blobs of paint from a brush on an old wall tile and a blob of water does the trick for me. Unless drybrushing or basecoating when I am going straight from the pot! I have pre-watered my Ironbreaker pot though which has improved flow greatly from the smeary mess it used to be, but only because it is nearly empty.

The Wraithknight will be host to some more experiments in painting. Currently it's as far as inking all over with blue wash over light blue drybrush to create the shadowy effect.

@LiamHaith How's your painting going? Got more done? :)

I've finished the Wraithknight, hopefully can take some better pictures with a proper camera soon. Twitter feed has a picture of it towering over a load of Dark Eldar Warriors. Planning on bringing it down to a friend's this weekend for it's first run (and watch it go splat on Turn 1 to new toy syndrome). ;)

Not even started yet pal, got to wait until the big man pays my wages. I was going to invest in some paints but found a local Curry's selling a 60" HD LED Smart TV for £350 and HAD to pick it up at that price. So that took my spare income. In other news, Games look gorgeous in 60" :D

Had a whole weekend of 40k!

Battle 1: Dark Eldar versus Daemons. The Wraithknight went straight for a Lord of Skulls and dealt 4 hull points before the giant daemonic construct of Khorne flattened it. Dark Lances finished it off, sniping the super-heavy walker, causing catastrophic damage and an explosion big enough to kill the Daemons' warlord who was on his last wound and hiding out line of sight. Bloodthirster of Insensate Rage was hit by a Farseer's Cleansing Flame spell from the Sanctic power table which also destroyed a Maulerfiend by hitting it's rear armour. The Farseer was using Sanctic powers and he suffered a peril on every single spell that he cast but kept surviving them! Daemon player eventually clinched victory by 3 VPs.

Battle 2: Dark Eldar versus Deathwing. The Dark Eldar army had captured control of the entire board by Turn 2 as he only had an Imperial Knight on the board. 8 VPs by this point set the tone of the game as the Deathwing were isolated and picked apart when they teleported in. The Wraithknight slaughtered two squads of Terminators and the Archon and his squad of Incubi ripped apart another. The game was called with the Wraithknight on one wound remaining and a 18-3 stomping. :o

Battle 3: Dark Eldar versus Chaos Space Marines. There was a lot of early Dark Lance sniping scattered over the board but the Chaos player struggled to find a reply. A squad of Terminators was ripped apart in shooting with a squad of Guardians taking out three thanks to Bladestorm. The Wraithknight went on another murder spree killing two squads of Noise Marines and stomping a Land Raider into the floor causing 18 hull points of damage! The Archon took out Lucius the Eternal with his Huskblade and shrugged off blow after blow from chainswords to Lascannons and the Chaos player tried desperately to down him and clinch VPs for victory. Wasn't to be, the Archon ran off behind a wall! :D

Also tried Ago of Sigmar which wasn't too bad now I've played it. Not sure how my opponent was meant to answer two squads of 30 clanrats though with what's in the starter box!

Great report!

and as for the age of sigmar he should of easily been able to do that ^^ especially if using the sigmarines!

They were dishing out 40-50 attacks per turn when adding the Skaven Warlord's Gnash-Gnaw Their Bones ability. +1 attack on a squad of spear armed Skaven all in combat range. The big guy in the Khorne army was getting swamped by the second squad and a Warlock Engineer pointed his finger at the monster and it died to Warp Lightning. D6 mortal wounds after the Clanrats dragged it down to 4 wounds left after one turn of combat!

The big guy for sigmar has a chance to do 18 wounds and his mount has the chance 18 so in one round of combat he could wipe that I wiped a 15 man squad of blood letter Friday :)

Anyone picked up the Mont'Ka campaign book? I have a side force of Imperial Guard and the new formation in there is....questionable. OK, more like GW have completely lost the plot.

A normal bare minimum combined arms list consists of 2x troops units and a HQ. If using two Platoons that's 4x10 men in infantry squads plus 2x 5 men in command plus a 5 man command squad. 55 models.

The new detachment, if you don't go armoured, wants three platoons at full size (5 infantry squads + 5 man command squad) and two command squads for some reason. So that's 15x10 infantry, 3x5 in command plus 2x5 in senior command plus a load of sentinels attached to the platoons. 175 infantry models alone at roughly £18 per box of 10 infantry and eating over 1000pts of a typical 1500-2000pt game before adding weapon upgrades. The only people who will use this is anyone with an established and huge Imperial Guard force built up over the years.

Which in a game that lends itself better to small squads of mobile units instead of a giant horde is a silly idea.

Yeah this stuff has got kind of silly. Which is great for me and my mates who have been playing for 10+ years and have at least 1500pts of basically every army each. For new players it seems as though Games Workshop are pricing new people out of their products. Luckily there are loads of great smaller games to play but 40K and Fantasy always feel to me like the top dogs regardless.

Me and my group have recently got back into fantasy and with the release of the Betrayal at Calth boxed set we have been buying them together and splitting them as they give a quite decent deal for getting into 30K.

We also got into a smaller skirminsh game called this is not a test, which is similar to GorkaMorka and Necromunda but set in a fallout style post apocalyptic real world.

I've tried to look into the smaller games, but it feels much more like D&D with them. And whilst D&D is awesome, you need to get a bunch of mates together and decide beforehand "Okay, we're going to do a D&D night.".. Same with these other tabletops, there isn't much of the large playerbase 40K has where you can just go somewhere and play. You gotta arrange it yourself. And that also pushes a lot of people away.

40k is played almost everywhere whilst the other games seem to be in pockets. My main club is big on X-Wing and Lord of the Rings, the other one I tried is Infinity and Age of Sigmar and my private gaming circle is massive on Malifaux which seems to be widespread. :)

40k is good for when you want a massive battle.

Yeah we've had a couple of all weekend Apocalypse battle in 40k and they have been a blast as well as a run a campaign where we wrote ongoing story's after each game, it was great fun. a few of my friends got into x wing while I got into flames of war which is also great for a quick evening game and not too expensive to get into. What did you think of age of Sigmar? We couldn't get into it and kept to fantasy in our group.

I found Age of Sigmar to be unfinished and a bit of a mess, which has killed it off in my circles before it began.

I love malifaux. Great system, really unique bluffing mechanic and no two games are the same.

i have been painting guild for the last two weeks, this is what i have so far:

FAQs are being released for 40k and AoS. Points and a balancing system being put in place for AoS as well. It's actually seen a revival as I've had some fun games with it between now and my last post. :)

As for the 40k FAQ, get ready to turn the drama cannons up to 11. A rule has been "clarified" regarding Jink and passengers of transports. It's a rule that allows Dark Eldar vehicles to not fall over at a sneeze, but using it now prevents the passengers from firing properly. Passengers also snap-fire if the vehicle moves over 6". This has killed off the gunboat style of play that has been used by the Dark Eldar for decades and rendered them "functionally inoperable." :(

Jink was about the only thing that made Dark Eldar Raiders viable to use. Snap firing over 6" is a bit daft, too. But I haven't played 40k in a long time, so it doesn't really effect me.

Had a fantastic few games of Kill Team in a tournament yesterday. Came second after just getting edged out against the winner by 1 VP!

I took 11 Dark Eldar Warriors (rifle toting space elf pirates) and three Incubi (heavily armoured and nasty duelists with a big powered halberd). Facing Grey Knights, Harelquins and Imperial Guard.

First game I set a trap for the Grey Knights by using a Dark Lance (Big anti-tank rifle) deployed up high to force their Razorback transport on to the other side of the board. That's where a scout with a Blaster (think Anti-Tank shotgun) was waiting. Trap is sprung and the tank survives but the Warriors closed in and shredded the Grey Knights whilst the Incubi hammered on the tank with their halberds. Grey Knights were good at slaying daemons, not so good against pirate alien space elves. ;)

Second was the Harlequins who came with anti-grav bikes carrying explosives and underslung heavy weapons. They outmanoeuvred me but the trap was sprung again, my infantry closed round the bikers as they descended on the objective where a small group of Warriors were behind a barricade bravely trying to hold a supply drop. One biker fell but the casualties were too much and even though the Incubi fell upon the objective and claimed it, my opponent outwitted me with more victory points. He went on to win the tournament!

Third game was against Guard. I had no particular tactics and the Warriors got lined up to get shot. The Dark Lance was engaged in a ranged duel with a missile launcher team who ran off the board! The Warriors traded fire with the Guardsmen hiding in cover but the game was swung by the Incubi legging it into the back field and chopping the helpless Guardsmen into small chunks in close combat. The game ended with horrendous casualties on both sides but two blood-soaked Incubi stood there on the objective, having terrified the Guardsmen and forcing them to run off the board!

I utterly loved Incubi. A 10-strong squad of Incubi could tear through even the biggest, greebliest monster the opponent could throw at you. Plus, Drazhar, Master of Blades (Mistress of Blades for me, as my Dark Eldar army was Matriarchal) was great. I hated when they took out Slicus though. I mean, I understand it. He was ridiculously overpowered. But that's why I used him :D Dark Lances were fantastic and definitely worth the price for the upgrade.

I never actually used the Harlequin/Reaver Jetbike combos. It seemed like it was a waste of their potential to stick them on the bikes.

As for having your warriors lined up, I always preferred to stick 20 of them in a Raider with splinter racks for those sweet, sweet re-rolls. Though I don't know if that's viable in the latest ruleset, I haven't played in a long while.

Kill Team is only 200pts and models move individually, so better off spreading out on foot. The Grey Knights player found this out as I corralled his Razorback and five marines into a firing range.
