What do you enjoy? No good recommending something you’ll hate, but what do you want to get out of it - general fitness?

What equipment and space will you have available?

I dont hugely enjoy any of it - but I have been following FitnessBlender.com for some few years now

I have a set of Power Blocks - heaviest is 24 pounds (11 kilos?)

I ended up doing an cardio workout to increase endurance - something I struggle with. I can do HITT for 20 secs but not cardio for 40!

I will find a workout for tomorrow and then start a new challenge on Monday

By the sounds of it, you'd get a lot out of bridging those times with your intervals - so 30s HIIT, perhaps with 15s rest between each exercise. Then look to do that for 20-25 minutes as a session.

Sometimes separating cardio can be too much of a thing - they're all cardio if you work long enough, even if the quality goes out of the window! Skipping is a great example.

I like to put HIIT sessions together with muscle groups getting a rest on each exercise, so press ups may be followed by squat jumps, then by sit ups, then burpees, then pull-ups, etc. Easy to build a session myself that way, and give enough variation. Weight load where appropriate.

Quite a few of my workouts are supersets, or maybe lower or upper body exercises interspersed with cardio or HIIT. Sometimes I do just pure strength and I certainly get into the cardio zone doing that - if I work hard enough!

I tend to do lower body one day then upper body the next, then core on day three, with upper and lower body on days 4 and 5. It isnt as basic as that though - there could be supersets, HIIT, EMOMs, AMRAPS, HIIT, Cardio or even total body.

I will try and increase the HIIT period to 30 secs. The other issue I have is that my weights are in 3 pound increments (American) and I think this is a problem. I can do bicep curls with 12lb per hand, but I struggle to increase the weight as the next weight is 15lb which is a big jump in one hit.

Love a jumping jack and squat jumps!

That is a tricky weight difference to progress through. You’d have to keep upping the reps on the 12s until you can jump the gap, or only do the 15s on low rep work.

Alongside your favourite exercises, worth trying some variations:

Super star jumps (squat into star jump)

Every burpee variation possible of course (I quite like a hand-release burpee!)

Get-ups (sit, roll back so feet go over your head, then roll back onto your feet and jump)

Devil’s Press (if you’re a masochist, but a great movement)

I've managed to tear my meniscus, so my big Ultra marathons I had planned for this year are now a pipe dream. Trying to replace running with the gym.

Recovery doesn’t sound like fun for it. Are you on a waiting list for an op or are they hoping it heals?

Never heard them called that - I just know them as squat star jumps!

I have done a whole burpee workout but they arent my fave

Get-ups I like

I had never seen that exercise you call the Devils Press until last week when it turned up in a routine - basically it was a set of say, upper body exercises, then a round of some sort of burpee, then maybe lower body, then a different burpee. The Devil's press is not super amusing but I shall try to do it more.

I also still cant do proper push-ups. Can do them on an incline or on my knees but despite many years of trying, following various trainers offering different ways to do them - nope, still can't

I will try increasing the reps to see if that will bridge the gap to the next weight. Thanks for that, nobody has suggested that before

After a chest infection for 3 months jus getting back into running 2-3 times a week with some light weights 2-3 times a week :-)

Always feel better in myself when able to run, can put anxiety and stress to one side.

I completed my 10 mile race in the lakes in 1 hour 55, pretty pleased with it really as my goal was sub 2hr. 1600ft incline which was tough at times! Haha!
