chazzy2501 Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 I was wondering if I could query edugeek on what schools allow pupils to use their own usb sticks? Could someone make a poll? I was discussing it here and I don't want (or see the need for USB access) ((VLE FROG and O365 access provided))
unixman_again Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 We're a college and we do. My last school was a school and we did. We mostly had thin clients so there wasn't any real issue. In both cases, if students can't read their stick, that is their problem not ours, but we will try to help them.
CamelMan Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 We allow them - however I am considering the possibility of blocking them when we go to our new domain next year - for the same reasons as you (O365, access from home etc)
adhutton Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 We now block all student USB sticks and staff need to use only encrypted USB sticks or encrypted portable HDDs. Students have remote access/Office 365 etc. Andrew
SovietRussia Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 I think if we banned them, there may be a riot...
synaesthesia Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 We allow them but every so often visit the idea of blocking. Would have to sort something for visitors such as nurses that come in with sticks, but we tend to use a separate login for those.
jamesfed Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 Allowed for now but big drive going on to get students to use either our WebDAV service or Remote Desktop.
6Foot2 Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 Poll created. Link: http://www.edugeek.net/forums/general-chat/148908-poll-memory-sticks-do-you-allow-them.html I have responded in the poll 'yes' HTH. 1
Carpdude Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 I am at a small K-12 Academy in the US and we do allow USB sticks for the kids to save their work. Our kid's laptops are frozen with Faronics Deep Freeze so they just know to save their work on their personal sticks.
rob_coles Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 We allow students but discourage the use. Staff have been disabled.
unixman_again Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 Staff have been disabled. There are certain members of our staff I would like to "disable". 3
Earthling Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 We allow them for staff and for 6th Form only.
ConnorByrne Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 The pupils can buy there own if they need it, but staff have to use encrypted usb's as it has the child's data on them.
