RobFuller Posted April 22, 2016 Posted April 22, 2016 I assume disabling all active scanning eases your problem? Do your disk queues balloon?
jezi55 Posted April 22, 2016 Posted April 22, 2016 I assume disabling all active scanning eases your problem? Do your disk queues balloon? I disabled across the school for 30 minutes and yes it fixed the problem. I have just gone through about 70 exceptions and the system seems to be stable but still a high CPU usage.
TwistedHelixis Posted April 26, 2016 Posted April 26, 2016 (edited) Did you know that Avast does not use Wildcards * in it's exclusions? I am also getting in a twist over putting together an exclusions list for a 2012r2 Domain Server and wondered if some kind person could post up a full list of exclusions they are currently using. EDIT - Think the AVAST person was trying to say they do not support % characters such as %windir% but not 100% sure as I got a Muppet. Edited April 26, 2016 by TwistedHelixis
TwistedHelixis Posted April 26, 2016 Posted April 26, 2016 Anyone installed Avast on a Hyper-V host?? If so read this - https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=185739.0
RobFuller Posted April 28, 2016 Posted April 28, 2016 Running Avast fine of my 5 Hyper-V Cluster hosts with the correct exclusions as per MS. I use the wildcard *, I know it works as it was messing with my DPM mount points as I didn't have a * wildcard to exclude the whole directory, once it put this in all was fine so I know it definitely works for me....
TwistedHelixis Posted May 5, 2016 Posted May 5, 2016 Just fine tuning my server settings and wondered what you had ticked in the Packers section, have you left them as default or ticked them all. Thanks
RobFuller Posted May 5, 2016 Posted May 5, 2016 Default settings which on mine are; Self-extracting DOS exe Self-extracting Win32 exe NTFS streams Droppers
TwistedHelixis Posted May 11, 2016 Posted May 11, 2016 Hi again. Is it OK to scan the Sims Doc Storage folder?
TwistedHelixis Posted May 11, 2016 Posted May 11, 2016 Also is it OK to scan the Sims shared folder on the server?
RobFuller Posted May 12, 2016 Posted May 12, 2016 Hope so as I havn't excluded them (No issues have arisen)
LeMarchand Posted May 25, 2016 Posted May 25, 2016 Just went to install Avast on some new laptops and it just wouldn't play. Creating a new exe and downloading it seemed to do the trick though in doing so I did notice that the "Coming Soon" MSIs have arrived - for paying customers only. (I suppose that's fair enough as the make it easy enough to script a silent install).
jezi55 Posted May 25, 2016 Posted May 25, 2016 I still have my original MSI which I use to send out via GPO, when a new version comes out it auto updates via the management console.
LeMarchand Posted May 26, 2016 Posted May 26, 2016 (edited) What do you do to script the install? @ echo off If EXIST "C:\AvastInstalled.txt" goto :FINISHED "\\dc-01\NETLOGON\Avast\avast_business_antivirus_setup.exe" echo Installed >> "C:\AvastInstalled.txt" :FINISHED exit Seems to work (with the new exe, created as "Silent" from the console). It does leave a desktop icon that could be removed by a second script. I still have my original MSI which I use to send out via GPO, when a new version comes out it auto updates via the management console. I tried my original MSI. No joy . techie08 Posted May 26, 2016 Posted May 26, 2016 Im guessing then you can just extract an msi from the exe file?
techie08 Posted May 26, 2016 Posted May 26, 2016 Slowly but surely it looks like they are reducing features available for the free basic version.
LeMarchand Posted May 26, 2016 Posted May 26, 2016 Im guessing then you can just extract an msi from the exe file? I requested one a few months back - I can't seem to extract an msi.
pete Posted May 26, 2016 Posted May 26, 2016 ^ That. IIRC the Avast techs are building a custom .msi on the fly for customers who request them.
RobFuller Posted May 26, 2016 Posted May 26, 2016 Slowly but surely it looks like they are reducing features available for the free basic version. Not reducing features just some of the new ones are paid for only, which is fair enough.
LeMarchand Posted June 28, 2016 Posted June 28, 2016 Looks like my schools will be going Avast when our McAfee sub runs out - but what do people use on their servers as Avast free won't do?
TwistedHelixis Posted June 28, 2016 Posted June 28, 2016 Currently have McAfee on my servers and Avast on all clients.
LeMarchand Posted June 28, 2016 Posted June 28, 2016 Currently have McAfee on my servers and Avast on all clients. Cheers - but does anyone have a free/cheap (but good!) option?
RobFuller Posted July 1, 2016 Posted July 1, 2016 Currently have Avast on all my servers without issue. As always follow the exclusions guidelines and test first! 1
TwistedHelixis Posted July 11, 2016 Posted July 11, 2016 Just noticed that when you go to download the exe installer it now says - for workstations only. 1
LeMarchand Posted July 11, 2016 Posted July 11, 2016 Just noticed that when you go to download the exe installer it now says - for workstations only. I knew I was getting that idea from somewhere! The console has a server tab, though...
