Has anyone configured the Ctrl Alt Del screen to look more "corporate" within there organisation e.g company colour and logo?

Also is there any pieces of freeware which when students are logged onto a pc it displays there username somewhere on the desktop?

Cheers

Yup. Changed the default login screen wallpaper via GPO.

I often get bored of our login screen wallpapers and change them. Never made them corporate looking though, i just tend to find something nice and abstract :p

We build this into our image so we can see which version of the image is running without having to login. We also set the users backgrounds using BgInfo which can display various bits of info such as machine name, IP address etc. we also have a registry key which is updated per image build which is displayed on the desktop background also thanks to @Sentro :)

Bginfo is fantastic but can be used for so much more. I have used it to show students on log on their current attainment and target grades by linking to an excel file. Ofsted loved it. A fantastic bit of kit but you have to write a script to pull the data and a logon/lot off to retrieve the excel file from the server.

If you have a script available would you share on here?

We use the logon screen for 'Word of the week', competitons and such like. As mentioned we use TweaksLogon to get the right size / format then use a simple script to copy the images over.

I will send you a google docs invite to the files. If you pm me your email. You will have some tweaking to do to make it work, logon log off scripts etc, I no longer work in UK with this stuff so can't help with it but I could pass you an email add for another edugeek user I have helped make it work.

The beauty of it is that is dynamic to every pupil and you only update one excel file.

Pm me.

Changing the login wallpaper is a doddle. Simply create your jpg file (it has to be less than 150k in size from memory), rename it to backgroundDefault.jpg and then copy it to c:\windows\System32\odbe\info\backgrounds

To activate the wallpaper, create\change the following registry key:- HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Authentication\LogonUI\Background - OEMBackground=1 (Reg_Dword)

Another vote for BGInfo here. We use it to set a nice boring blue background and then have the info we need as admins in the bottom right hand corner (screen shot attached). The asset tag and software versions are taken by using the registry and file version queries hidden in the custom section of BGInfo

Hope that helps

Has anyone won the image competition yet? ;)

Ottmar Hitzfeld Stadium, Switzerland (highest pitch in Europe!)

Suncorp Stadium, Brisbane, Australia.

Forest Hills Stadium, Forest Hills, New York.

Aviva Stadium, Dublin, Ireland.

That kind of falls flat if the pupils don't know what feigned, hypocrisy and pretence means...

Yep - although our students did take a almost a day though. I did check back to see if they had cheated (Image search) - the winner did confess he'd emailed his father at work who mailed it around the whole office......

Do you often give out prizes for this? Sounds quite good and must get the kids really involved but does it get pricey?

Were students really expected to know the all the answers without using t'Internet? It literally only took 2 minutes with Google Reverse Image search to get them.

BGinfo is great, we also made a desktop background with the mandatory profiles which was the same for everyone apart from a large P(upil), A(dmin) or S(taff) in the top right hand corner so you could tell at a glace if people were on the right account type.
