sparkeh Posted January 8, 2015 Posted January 8, 2015 Check the servers daily Disaster recover plan. Power goes down, server is hooked up to UPS And I do the a partial network check manually, checking all accounts hard peripherals, VM server etc.... My job book has been signed of completely. Any other suggestions welcome Take another look at your DR plan, its seems a bit...light?
ConnorByrne Posted January 8, 2015 Posted January 8, 2015 Brilliant, I've got some paperwork to sort out, cheers for that.
Domino Posted January 8, 2015 Posted January 8, 2015 Take another look at your DR plan, its seems a bit...light? Aye, I'd consider that BCP not DR
ConnorByrne Posted January 8, 2015 Posted January 8, 2015 Take another look at your DR plan, its seems a bit...light? Light eh!? Can't really go into detail on here, but just sum it up, I can ensure you it is not "light"
ConnorByrne Posted January 8, 2015 Posted January 8, 2015 Aye, I'd consider that BCP not DR I would prioritise DR over that, but everything is in check so far anyway, generally I get a period where I finish all my jobs then when I think I'm on t of things, In waves I get phone calls and more barely legible writing in my job book. To try and decrypt before I can solve the issue!
sparkeh Posted January 8, 2015 Posted January 8, 2015 Light eh!? Can't really go into detail on here, but just sum it up, I can ensure you it is not "light" Your earlier post suggests your DR plan that the server is on a UPS? Disaster recover plan. Power goes down, server is hooked up to UPS
burnsyb0y Posted January 8, 2015 Author Posted January 8, 2015 Thanks for the suggestions that do not seem to be having a dig, wrote up a checklist of all the suggestions for when the jobs run dry. Should keep me going til leaving time tomorrow
mikkydoos Posted January 8, 2015 Posted January 8, 2015 TTcchhh you lot. Haven't you got anything to do !
ConnorByrne Posted January 8, 2015 Posted January 8, 2015 Your earlier post suggests your DR plan that the server is on a UPS? Yes I've got a VMWARE server running on UPS in the school, backups are completed backed up to cloud and physical drives, Obviously there are a lot more things that just that in the DR I just dont fancy putting it all up on here. Being a large primary school all measures are taken to ensure that everything. God only knows how many pages the plan itself it. Touch wood, we won't have to use it any time soon.
ConnorByrne Posted January 8, 2015 Posted January 8, 2015 I'm doing what I've got left to do, which so far is just a bit of paperwork. Waiting for the flood to come.
eyetea Posted January 8, 2015 Posted January 8, 2015 Brother used to work in a 3 man team in a large sixth form college... his managed pretty much told him and the other tech if they had no open tickets then they could do what they wanted - sometimes they'd do useful stuff, other times he'd say he'd been playing stuff like TF2 all afternoon!
Sunnyknight Posted January 8, 2015 Posted January 8, 2015 Lock the door and take a nap, you earned it. 2
ConnorByrne Posted January 8, 2015 Posted January 8, 2015 Lock the door and take a nap, you earned it. Sounds good but no chance

That's alright isn't it, I would rather be busy though if I'm honest, try and get something done if I can, if not then have a wonder and make stuff to do as a last resort.
HTCPCP Posted January 8, 2015 Posted January 8, 2015 We always die the death during the exams period. Most of the jobs then are just to keep the system ticking over and dealing with any issues that come up. Apart from that, we are heavily encouraged not to do anything that could cause any issue at all on the system. We normally use this time to order the stocks in - but there is only a limited number of batteries, CDs, DVDs etc that you can order really... Thankfully I have a load of primary schools where I work at to help mean that I at least stay busy. Well that and continual insurance and AppleCare claims that we have had to do since we started to roll out ipads...
blu4 Posted January 8, 2015 Posted January 8, 2015 I watch South Park... :> I mean.. ekhem... The IT themed ones at least "Over Logging"
