Oaktech Posted January 5, 2015 Posted January 5, 2015 This might sound like a stupid question, but I've got a mouse mat that I've had my entire career, since my first IT job in 1998. It's the Sun Ultracomputing 'rocket man'. It's still in pretty good condition, but due to use it's getting a bit dull, and to be honest a bit of a bio hazard. Ive tried upholstery cleaner and antibac wipes but they don't do much. Has anyone ever tried sticking a mouse mat through a washing machine? Any ideas?

Depending on the type (whether it's rubber or fabric) it could make the glue melt thus ruining it!? I've never tried this but then again NORMAL people wouldn't care and just buy a new mouse mat This is meant as a joke I'm sure your very normal, it just a thread that made me giggle a little 1

LiamH Posted January 5, 2015 Posted January 5, 2015 I once cleaned a mouse mat with a soft bristled toothbrush and hot water with a bit of soap. It was an expensive gaming mouse mat though, so not cheap to replace.

Oh Altar of Bosch, please look kindly on this elderly mouse mat as it embarks on it's dangerous and unprecedented journey, we pray that it comes back not just unsullied by hands, but also un-frayed and still stuck down... (cue chanting monks) 1

(cue chanting monks) My washer has a Mini 30 cycle (30 degrees for 30 mins) I would have thought something like this if you have it should be OK, I recently washed my car foot-well mat's on this and they came out like new! 1

Dunno if there is a specific product for mouse mats though so possibly worth testing if you do it, no point in sticking stickyback on it to find out it's affected cursor movement! Could start using these... 1

I have a "1991 Queen's award for export - Designed in Britain, Used around the world" ICL (remember them??) mouse mat... stamped on the back is "Computer Gear, PA, USA" or similar, so shame they couldn't make the mouse mats in Britain with the PCs! Had it as long as I can remember and it's 2 or 3 times thicker than the standard 61p mouse mat.
