Hi everybody,

I have been given my schools Office 365 migration date for next weekend. Just wondering if anyone else has had the move managed by BTLS and got any advice/hints and tips? Cheers.

Have done it twice on my own so I can tell you if the things they are saying make sense or not :)

*that's a lie actually, I did it twice with extensive help and support from many edugeeks and Microsoft second line support guys all over the world! :)

Thanks, I’m just looking for any advice for anything I might have over looked such as not remembering e-mail address that’s not in the address book (auto fill I think it’s called) so all external e-mail address people e-mail they’ll have to take notes or add them to their contacts list manually (hope that makes sense)

email migration to office 365.docx

I have this guide that @plexer did for me. It assumes you have set up an admin account and all the user accounts.

The only thing is that for one of my schools I had to change the IMAP encryption to "none" or it didn't work at all.

Have a look and see what you think - let me know if I can help

Yeah we got ours all swapped over this week. Basically it's an entirely new system, so the only thing that has come over is the e-mails and contacts, but when you start typing and the auto-fill thing comes down... that won't be there until you start sending e-mails again.

BTLS should have sent you a list through the Schools Portal of all new usernames and passwords. Have you got them?

A side note - prepare yourself for the usual 'WHY?!?!' and the answer of, "Wasn't me!".

SECOND SIDE NOTE: Mark did you once work at Lanway?

Yeah got all the stuff with new passwords ect. All ready to go, got everything thing sorted document wise like configuring iphones ect. Just a member of staff asking about auto fill and it hadn't crossed my mind ha.

Indeed I worked at Lanway with you!

I wish someone had done mine :(

I'm pretty sure the school pay a pretty penny to BTLS! But soooo glad they do. Takes it out of my hands when people complain about it. Being on Office 365 is awesome though... not that I have used any of the features yet!

Your kid comes to the school I work at! (I think...!) You still at SJT?

No, not mine! My son goes Hapton primary school and my little girl goes ST Augustine, it's a mare dropping them off in mornings! You at cherryfold?

Yeah still at SJT, it's all changed in last few years and got some bigger changes in 2015. I think I go to college with a couple of Pete's old apprentices (I'm doing the Windows Server 2012)

Yeah, up the fold!! Hahaha!

Take it they got rid of managed service?

I think Liam is doing the server 2012 course. He's so funny. Will asked Pete if he would teach some of it... luckily Will found someone more willing because Pete wasn't keen on the idea.

The issues highlighted over here in Lancaster is that if the user has local Outlook (Admin, head or SMT) then the contacts don't come across as they have used the contacts for the user from the webmail. It isn't a problem as you can import the contacts over but it may cause confusion and stress first thing!

@Joanne how's your migration going?

@Ste_Harve I'm told all your sub folders are copied too. Everything but your current password as it's encrypted so you are given a temp password to log in for first time. BTLS sent you a CSV file with all the staff and student details.

Our outbox didn't migrate into the new one though - all emails went into the inbox and had to be moved. I expect your guys have sorted that though

I'm worried as it is!

Depending on how the migration is being done, folders will be copied over in the structure they currently are (depends if its Exchange to Exchange Online, IMAP to Exchange Online or POP3 to Exchange Online)

Morning all.

Does anyone know if the distribution lists from the current Exchange server's Address Book tool copy over automatically? We've got our change over starting tomorrow, and we use the current shared distribution lists a lot. I could do without working on those today, but if it has to be done I need to get a move on for the switchover.

Cheers.

@Mark182 they did it all overnight, works like a dream. Just had people saying that they didn't like it... but I just say, "Well, it wasn't me!!" although I would have been using 365 long ago given the choice :)
