hardtailstar Posted December 4, 2014 Posted December 4, 2014 Has anyone got one? Which one have you got?
sippo Posted December 4, 2014 Posted December 4, 2014 Yes. For the car? I have a blackvue 400 HD, but there are cheaper alternatives.
LincolnE Posted December 4, 2014 Posted December 4, 2014 I did have one of the cheaper chinese built ones. It worked fine for about 4-5 months, then abruptly died on me. I'd recommend to get something more sturdy if you buy one.
hardtailstar Posted December 4, 2014 Author Posted December 4, 2014 Yes. For the car? I have a blackvue 400 HD, but there are cheaper alternatives. yup for car, Where did you buy it from? also is yours mounted by your rear view mirror? Thanks
DannyG555 Posted December 4, 2014 Posted December 4, 2014 If you have a smartphone and healthy amount of storage, you could use an app to do it. I use one called Caroo on my Android phone which works pretty well. 1
Netwacky87 Posted December 4, 2014 Posted December 4, 2014 (edited) I have one, they are brilliant. I would say though, my camera (and the ones ive used previously) only work well on a SD card lower than a Class 10. Otherwise it gets a bit jumpy. TechMonkey Posted December 4, 2014 Posted December 4, 2014 I've heard very good things about the Dragonfly DashCam (Dragonfly Dashcam | The Best Dashcam Ever Made). The are a bit pricey but do a fantastic job. DISCLAIMER: I've not got one or work for them, just good word of mouth. ONce I have some funds I'm getting a couple for myself & the SO. 1
Andrew_C Posted December 4, 2014 Posted December 4, 2014 After Tuesday's drive in, I'm thinking of getting one too! I missed the idiot, my reactions are still good, the ABS works, and there was nothing coming the other way! 1
sippo Posted December 4, 2014 Posted December 4, 2014 (edited) This is not my car, but exactly the same setup and car model. Camera is the same size. I missed the idiot, my reactions are still good, the ABS works, and there was nothing coming the other way! I had an idiot too the other day, completely cut across me on a roundabout. I knew they existed but didn't think about it till I saw a mate of mines new car and he had one fitted from dealers.
abillybob Posted December 4, 2014 Posted December 4, 2014 I have two almost identical to this although mine isn't E-Prance. E-PRANCE® New 1080P Novatek CPU 1.5" Car DVR: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics It's amazing and the picture quality is great, I have two Kingston 16GB cards in them as the cheap ones never really worked properly, I have one facing the rear and one facing the front. It also has motion detection so when parked it automatically turns itself on and starts recording! Well worth the money! 1

abillybob Posted December 4, 2014 Posted December 4, 2014 Don't pay a dealer to do it. It's way too easy to do yourself. I have a question, how has everyone fitted theirs? Mine came with a cigarette charger socket which sometimes you need to fiddle with to get power to the cam, it's not the best! I'd rather hardwire it into the car, has anyone else done this??
tommej Posted December 4, 2014 Posted December 4, 2014 I'm always tempted by this one: Techmoan - Techmoan - Using a Mobius Camera and some accessories to make my idealÂDash-Cam One day I'll buy one and have a play!
sippo Posted December 4, 2014 Posted December 4, 2014 Mine is always on. This guide is invaluable. Dash Cam & 12V Multi Adaptor Hidden Install (driver storage compartment) - Skoda Octavia II (2004 - 2013) - BRISKODA.net
Andrew_C Posted December 4, 2014 Posted December 4, 2014 My car came with a couple of 3 way lighter sockets added. One in the centre console/storage area, and one by my right foot. First gets used for charging phone/running DVD for the house-apes, the latter for the SatNag, and maybe a putative dashcam.
hardtailstar Posted December 4, 2014 Author Posted December 4, 2014 Don't pay a dealer to do it. It's way too easy to do yourself. I wont be, The dealer did it free of charge for him as part of a deal on the car. I think it was an optional extra in some safety/insurance scheme

Im planning on installing a couple more cigarette lighters or usb ports so that I can have power behind the dash or in glove box.
hardtailstar Posted December 4, 2014 Author Posted December 4, 2014 went ahead and bought this. http://www.amazon.co.uk/E-PRANCE-Arrival-G-sensor-Detection-Recorder/dp/B00MIOT1QK/ref=sr_1_10?ie=UTF8&qid=1417697626&sr=8-10&keywords=dash+cams Reviews good and fairly good price. Will see when it comes.
Techykev Posted December 4, 2014 Posted December 4, 2014 I have been using the E-prance 803 since Sept, no problems with it so far Amazon.co.uk: e-prance mini 0803
Chris_ Posted December 4, 2014 Posted December 4, 2014 I've ordered a Mini 0803 dash cam. It gets a very good write up.
CHR1S Posted December 4, 2014 Posted December 4, 2014 I have used this for about 8 months now E-PRANCE® New 2.7" 1080 30FPS Car DVR Video Camera: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics works fine, build quality isn't the best but I did only pay about £30 for it.
