Now I'm no photographer myself, but hot damn these are some incredible photos, what cameras do you all use?

 

Im new to photography and I use the Canon 1300D

 

I bought this bundle Buy CANON EOS 1300D DSLR Camera with 18-55 mm f/3.5-5.6 & 75-300 mm f/3.5-5.6 Lens - Black | Free Delivery | Currys

 

I picked up some cheap filters from amazon too.

 

Its good for my needs at the moment and getting to grips with all the settings.

 

I also use my Google Pixel to take photos.

 

As professional photographers say, just get out there and take photos, the more you use your camera the better you will be with it.

imo its worth having an uv filter on your lenses just because it means if you do somehow scratch them its just the filter that takes the damage not the lens itself and filters are a lot cheaper

Did you mean a UV filter? An IR filter could be an expensive lens cap!

Having downsized from a dSLR to a mirrorless and now to the compact Panasonic TZ100 - I'm enjoying carrying around a camera which is light and can shoot in 4K video mode too...

If I've caused offense then I'm truly sorry, a lot of that camera lingo I don't understand, all I know is I've seen some mesmerizing photos on this thread

 

 

I wasn't offended either. Some of my favorite shots that I have taken, were on old phones! Some cameras are simply a joy to use, I have a Panasonic GX7, which if I'm honest is rarely is off Auto mode. Auto mode shoots the pictures the way I would want to take them a good 80% of the time.

I have a GX1 which is more often than not on the auto mode (blue light on the top) as well. For general 'days out' photos, or handing the camera over to someone else, it does the job fine, but it's nice to be able to go into shutter-priority or aperture-priority modes for racing cars, etc.

Not personally a fan of UV filters on digital cameras. Used to use them all the time when I shot on film. An £80 bit of glass in front of a £1500 lens makes no sense to me! I always use the lens hood and, touch wood, have never damaged a front element in umpteen years of taking pictures. Each to their own though.

im just paranoid and they werent £80 more like £5 im just clumsy at times and anything that stops a lens getting scratched seems like a good idea to me

I'm with Norbert on this one. Never used UV filters and never damaged a lens. With the lens hood on, the front element is usually recessed by a good inch or two so you'd have to do something special to scratch it etc.

 

Plus all mine are insured so if something unfortunately was to happen, I'd claim on the insurance.

 

Each to their own though, I do understand the paranoia when you just dropped hundreds of pennies on a new lens!

I don't usually put a UV on with the exception of very dusty or sandy environments.

 

I have been known to wipe my lens, only to have sand scratch it. Yes I now have a big puffer in the bag

I do understand that, however I go with a UV filter anyway. I don't think the quality of photograph I'm taking (or the laptop screen on which I'm viewing them) would notice the impact of the cheaper filter, but my bank account would certainly notice the damage to the lens.

I've noticed a tendency for extra lens flare and other undesirable effects with UV filters. It just makes no sense to me to put a cheap piece of glass in front of a beautifully engineered piece of ULD glass. As I shoot semi-professionally I have everything insured to the hilt anyway but so far have never needed to make a claim. More likely to trip over my own shoelaces and damage something than scratch a lens with deep lens hood on! Saying that though I did once pile everything into the bag after a shoot and when I next took the camera out the lens release button had inadvertently been pressed and when I lifted the camera out by the strap (which was attached to the foot on the 400mm lens) the body fell to the floor. Closest I've come to c**pping myself! Thankfully no damage done and I now check before getting everything out!

Weddings, pre-wedding shoots, parties, gigs, events, interiors and I've sold some of my wildlife and landscape photographs. My passion is wildlife and portraits but the other ones pay better!

I had fun shooting through cage bars at the local wildlife center yesterday. Rather liked the way this one turned out. The heat wave style lines are actually the fence. Only adjusted the levels a bit on the pc.

 

And I've always got to post a picture of our only remaining species of wild cat -

Only one was up for getting photos took. The rest were hiding/sun bathing up high.
