Jobos Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 (edited) So we're still running .Net 4.0 here but I'm looking into upgrading the network to 4.5.2 as the upcoming upgrade to Target Tracker is released soon and I'm told the update of Target Tracker uses 5.4.2. In the WSUS console I set WSUS to sync feature packs but only .Net 4.5.1 is listed with no sign of 5.4.2. Where is 5.4.2 hiding or is it a matter on installing 5.4.1 first then 5.4.2 will appear? 3s-gtech Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 Careful with your version numbers - what you want is 4.5.2, but you have mixed and matched several times in the post. 4.5.2 doesn't show in my WSUS console either, 4.5.1 is the latest I see and my own PC is happily on that. Are you certain Target Tracker needs this release?

Here's an email I received a little while ago: Advance warning for schools’ technical support personnel The next release of Target Tracker software is due by the end of October. The new version, 15.1, is built to take advantage of Microsoft’s .Net Framework version 4.5.2 and, when installed locally on a computer, will install .Net version 4.5.2 if it isn’t already installed. There are a number of things you will want to consider ahead of the release: 1) If you plan to ‘roll out’ Target Tracker v15.1 via Group Policy or, for example, on an RM CC4 network, Microsoft .Net version 4.5.2 will need to be installed independently. This cannot be done via the Target Tracker MSI install. Below is a link to Microsoft’s own offline installer for .Net that you may find useful: Download Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5.2 (Offline Installer) for Windows Vista SP2, Windows 7 SP1, Windows 8, Windows 8.1, Windows Server 2008 SP2, Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1, Windows Server 2012 and Windows Server 2012 R2 from Official Microsoft Down 2) Microsoft .Net Framework version 4.5.2 will not install under Microsoft XP. Therefore, Target Tracker version 15.1 is unsuitable for installation under Microsoft XP. If you wish to take advantage of new features in Target Tracker version 15.1, and any future releases, you will need to install the software on Windows Vista, Windows 7 or Windows 8. As you will be aware Microsoft stopped supporting Windows XP in April 2014 making it more vulnerable to security risks and viruses. We have been notifying customers since February 2014 that we will be withdrawing support for Windows XP from September 2014 and with the move to .NET 4.5.2 Target Tracker version 15.1 will not install on Windows XP systems 3) We intend to disable all versions of Target Tracker PRIOR to version 15.0. If you still have machines running version 14, you need to update very soon. Version 15.0.2 will NOT be disabled in the near future, will install and run on Windows XP, but will not contain features introduced later. Target Tracker version 15.0.2 is currently available to download at targettracker.org, in Support - Downloads and will continue to be available, even after the release of the new version at the following address: https://s3-eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/download.targettracker.org/TargetTrackerSetup15.0.2.exe Kind regards The Target Tracker Helpline team I was hoping it would already be available via wsus, but looks like we'll be staying on Target Tracker 15.0.2 for a little while until MS resolve this

Are you certain Target Tracker needs this release? Yes I've I received the same email as @lovelldr so I can only go on what Target Tracker say. Don't suppose there's any point installing 4.5.1 if I'm going to wait for 4.5.2 but what you say about having different versions of .net concerns me. Are you saying I should uninstall 4.0 before installing 4.5.2?

What I meant was that you had mashed together version numbers in your post and title - there is no 5.4.2. Not that I've tried it, but the offline installer contains several MSIs and packages including cab files that you may be able to import and deploy with SCCM or via Group Policy. Installing the .NET Framework 4.5, 4.5.1, and 4.5.2

lovelldr Posted December 5, 2014 Posted December 5, 2014 OK, management were insistent on rolling this out asap... So, the best way I found to ensure that dotnet 4.5.2 was installed, was to use PDQ Deploy. I downloaded the offline installer to a network share, and created a new package in the free version of PDQ Deploy. For the parameters, I used /q /norestart. Then, when all the machines are turned on, ( just deployed it out to all machines... It failed on a couple of machines (people turning them off when I was deploying), so just made sure they were turned on again, and re-deployed it... Perfect Hope this helps someone...

I don't use it [Target Tracker], so apart from knowing it loads, I can't say what's changed... I saw a few references to HTTP in the 4.5.2 announcement, so it could be network stuff. Still can't see why they couldn't lame it out though.

sted Posted January 14, 2015 Posted January 14, 2015 dotnet 4.5.2 is now available in wsus but you need t find and authorise it (or at least I did)
