Bill8 Posted March 26, 2019 Posted March 26, 2019 Finally got around this weekend to watching Deadpool 2 and happy to say that it was everything I was hoping and expecting. Fast paced, funny, rude and gory. Deadpool is definitely one of my more favourite superheroes going these days. You now need to watch 'Once Upon a Deadpool', only if you've watched 'The Princess Bride' though!
LeMarchand Posted April 7, 2019 Author Posted April 7, 2019 Juliet, Naked Annie (Rose Byrne) is stuck in a dead-end relationship with a boyfriend obsessed with long-forgotten and long-missing singer/songwriter Tucker Crowe (Ethan Hawke). An exasperated post by her on her boyfriend's Tucker Crowe forum leads to an email friendship with Crowe himself, and perhaps it may lead to something more? Gentle comedy which leaves the ending up to you to decide (though an end credits sequence gives you a big hint). Worth a look if the trailer tickles your fancy. Only complaint is that for years I thought Rose Byrne was English or maybe Scottish as her accent was so good (she's Australian), but her "not posh" accent here occasionally sounds off.

sonofsanta Posted April 9, 2019 Posted April 9, 2019 The 2018 Robin Hood is absolute nonsense, isn't it? By the point the 14th Century knights were dispersing a line of fire set off by a Molotov cocktail with their riot shields my brain had got up, walked out and gone to sit in the woods for a bit. I think it chose the woods because it was so confused about the complete lack of trees in a Robin Hood film. If you can turn your brain off entirely, though--and I mean entirely--it is kinda fun. It's definitely a better Assassin's Creed movie than Assassin's Creed was.
LeMarchand Posted April 15, 2019 Author Posted April 15, 2019 Dhoom 3 A circus performer seeks revenge against the bank that ruined his family so two Indian cops are sent to bring him to justice. Not seen the other 2 movies in Bollywood's most successful franchise, but the 2 cops seem to be the stars - so it's odd that here they are the antagonists to the film's real star/s and are very much secondary characters. Not a bad action/adventure, but way too long (170 minutes). Imagine Now You See Me meets The Prestige meets Bad Boys but with song and dance numbers (here the circus gives an excuse). Not one to rush to see, but it's free if you have Prime.

A punk band takes a gig that they soon regret when they find themselves trapped in the venue with a bunch of neo-Nazis who want them dead, Stars both Captain Picard and Kelvin Chekov. Quite a tense thriller, though I ended up watching on my own as it was too gruesome for the rest of the fam. Worth a look, but the violence does feel more "real" than in some movies.

Not so keen on how they treat one character's trauma for laughs, but in general the character moments in this one landed much better for me than in IW (which felt a bit shallow to me), and it does a frankly astonishing job of referencing 11 years' worth of films. So many good moments.
