FN-GM Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 We have one, the CTouch is much better. The CeleverTouch it to big and heavy. The glass screen is a pain as well. You see yourself when using it. Also the gap between the glass and the screen can make things difficult when wanting for accurate "touches". Ctouch screens are matte and don't have this gap.
Joanne Posted September 17, 2014 Author Posted September 17, 2014 Yeah the Philips screens had that issue with the precision. It was awkward explaining to people about refraction and shiz. I might also ask for a Ctouch demo in the very near future then. My reasoning of the clevertouch over the ctouch was the software you got with it looked really good...

The touch response was slow, laggy and completely un-calibrated. after numerous attempts to update drivers and re-calibrate we gave up and used it as a portable screen for presentations...
MattDLEA Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 We have 2 second hand ones, One is sat in a office gathering dust the other is in nursery as a interactive screen for the kids. They just use 2Simple on there. They are a complete and utter pain to get working properly more so then iPads. But touch wood nothing has gone wrong with it for a time
Bompalompalomp Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 We have a Clevertouch 55". So heavy, I had to get the two strongest men in the school to try and lift it onto its mount. Don't even try to set it up without help! - I wish its android version played nice with proxies, because we've pretty much just left that side alone since there's not much we can do with it. - Our mount arrived with the wrong instructions. UGHHH. - The software for windows can be a bit... Naff. One of them is supposed to launch the onsreen keyboard whenever you click a text field, but it doesn't work a lot of the time. - Calibration's been fine after the initial setup where it was horrible, but the distance between the screen and its glass can make looking at it from an angle inaccurate. I've had to coach the teacher several times on that. Other than that, I've found it fine. The 1080p screen is pretty as heck when it's not facing a window and it's in a classroom where the walls are full so it's easy to move around.

Apparently they have fixed the glass issue on the newer models so this is a question I will be asking the rep. I'm going for 65" ones to replace interactive whiteboards. I don't really need the android version, we have laptops and docking stations, but also have a transparent proxy so all should be golden. I'm a big fan of the touch screen TVs, it's just finding the right brand at the right price! Edited September 17, 2014 by Joanne
MYK-IT Posted September 19, 2014 Posted September 19, 2014 Just had 2 Philips 65" (2) Touch Screens installed....thinking this would be the way forward (instead of projector & SMART Board)...not convinced as yet! Erratic touch control, mouse moving everywhere...despite cleaning edges (again and again)...just too sensitive...only been installed a few weeks so potential warranty call will have to be made. Biggest issue (which we weren't aware of beforehand) is that SMART Ink Aware does not work; as in being able to annotate on top of anything displayed on the screen. Meaning staff have to use NoteBook Software (SMART v14) or the pen tools within Office 2010 (unless we've configured incorrectly??? but I am sure we have read somewhere since that this is only activated when connected to SMART hardware...v.crafty!).

Cheaper than the Clevertouches by quite a bit, and not as cheap the Philip's stock clearance things or some of the unknown probably awful devices we've seen. Got one installed at a school I look after and it's awesome. Tried putting one together on a mobile trolley though - built the stand then realised the device on it's own was 80kg. Two man job, left well alone!

Our Head retired in July and a local head of a 3 tier school has taken us on as an Executive Head, and he told me they are replacing all thier IWB's with Clevertouch screens and asked me what I think. I really dont know how I feel about that to be honest. Its newer but is it better than all interactive whiteboards?
synaesthesia Posted September 19, 2014 Posted September 19, 2014 Well as there is no projector involved there are possible cost savings, and it's certainly a better idea in the long run. No shadowing, better image quality typically.
Avited_Lisa Posted September 24, 2014 Posted September 24, 2014 Hi There is a lot to be said for the interactive flat panels, life span of usually around 45,000 hours, seriously reduced energy consumption and orientation issues go away completely. I've never used a CleverTouch but I think its the software that you need to focus on as well as ensuring teachers "buy in" to the new technology. I went to a school the other day to put in the USB A to B cables to touch enable their Promethean screens and some teachers were unaware they were touch screens and were really chuffed. From what I've seen all the hardware is much of a muchness (bar the new SMART 6065 which only has the HDMI input, no remote control and object awareness) so focusing on the software is key. CleverTouch are currently market leaders but CTouch are fast catching up so also worth a look. Most companies will do onsite demos, worth trying as many as possible to ensure you get the right product for your school Lisa
vyperz Posted September 25, 2014 Posted September 25, 2014 We have 45 of the 65" Clevertouches and the teachers love them The only issue we have is sometimes you need to uplug the HDMI cable and plug it back in again if the board has been off for a while.
