Samsung Galaxy S5 vs iPhone 6

I am looking at upgrading from current phone in october when my contract runs out. I am torn between the iPhone 6 and the Galaxy S5. If anyone can give me any advice on either phones that would nudge me more towards buying.

 

I know the iPhone 6 isn't out yet but I imagine it will just be very similar to the 5s with some improvements and of course the larger screen.

They're both going to be very good phone's it depends where your personal eco-system sits, if you normally use a lot of Apple products I'd say stick with the iPhone if not and you have bought into Google's Eco System go with Google. Depends on the User.

 

But they're both going to be equally as good as each other.

I personally wouldn't even think about another contract phone as you can purchase really decent android phones for far less than both these phones!

 

Someone on here will have an idea where you can purchase these as I did see a thread once about this but can't find it atm,

 

I am going to buy a decent spec Android phone and just a cheap Sim as I feel contracts are rip-off, the phones are sold at inflated prices so people are made to think that contracts are the only way for them to afford a phone.

 

These are just my thoughts, what do other people think?

Thank you for your feedback. I am used to using iPhones and they have always served me well (for the most part)

I like the idea of having more freedom with the Galaxy that Apple simply just wont allow there users to have

If you have a Mac or iPad the iPhone with "Continuity" would be a big selling point to go iPhone. Personally for me it would be iPhone 6 or a HTC One, i'm really not a fan of Samsung phones i have seen several people at the school and family with the Samsung Galaxy devices have big issues after around 12 months with the devices. Freezing, device getting very hot, battery draining very quickly to name but a few things, plus i paid £300 to come out of my contract early with the Samsung Galaxy S2 i thought it was that dire, audio call quality was very bad. I went iPhone 5 in the end and its been the best phone i have ever owned.

I'd advise neither. You can get good phones for much cheaper. The S4 and 5s are perfectly adequate. Is there a reason you want the latest ones? What is it that they offer that other phones don't?

I'm not 100% sure if I have my facts right here but doesn't have the A8 chip whereas some of the recent older models have the A7?

 

Also the older phones will be outdated faster and usually will need replacing sooner. At the moment I am using the iPhone 3. I had the 5 but unfortunately got stolen at a Limp Bizkit gig

The iPhone 6 has the A8, the 5S has the A7 and the 5C and the 5 have the A6. The iPhone 5 on my desk is still a perfectly usable phone although once iOS 8 gets on there I may change that opinion!

My HTC Desire (from 2010) still goes now, my daughter uses it for games if we are driving. I use my current phone (Sony Xperia Z1 Ultra) for a few things.

 

I watch films in the shower and bath. I film under water with it when I am out fishing or otherwise. I watch a boat load of films on it, so its good to have the screen size.

I can't remember what phone it was but I did have a HTC and it was dreadful. I know HTC's have improved a lot but if put me off going back to them

I'm really not sure I think at the moment I am leaning a bit more towards the Galaxy. iPhone's are good and all but I think it's time to try something new and also having control over my device. Although I guess we'll have to see when the time comes to buying again.

 

But unless someone posts something in this thread that is very swaying It's going to be about 50/50 :L

I miss my old iPhone 4, if only for the superb build quality. I have an S4 mini now and it's the same as every single Samsung phone I've ever owned. Feels cheap, and breaks easily. The silver finish scuffs off, the battery life deteriorates rapidly, and it regularly crashes requiring the battery to be pulled.

 

Had none of this with the iPhone. I can't wait till I can get rid and get something nicer (and non-android). I'm going to come crawling back to Apple or go to Microsoft and Nokia next for sure!

I still have my iPhone 4 and it's doing very well. I am expecting iOS8 to be the end of it though. The robustnesss of the S5 is tempting me.

Current galaxy note 2 user (which I love), i'm waiting for note 4 and possibly waiting for confirmation that android-L is planned for note 4. I think that the iphone are great but they have really struggled to keep up with the curve and I prefer androids more open package. I'd also agree if you don't NEED one then wait for next gen/prices to tumble.

 

Being in the USA means you get humped by what ever provider you choose contract or not.

Yep iOS 7 is the highest it will ever go, iOS 8 requires iPhone 4S or higher. Im guessing around 1 more year of the apps being updated for iOS7 before the new ones require iOS8

the i6 is barely a match for the s3 for crying out loud! I know my new LG phone which retails about £100 is, other than the screen, near identical in features to the iphone 6!

I am in a bit of a quandry myself, I am out of contract with my phone, was thinking iPhone 6 Plus as I fancy a larger screen phone, but I get the feeling the price is going to be horrible, also ! 16gb is ridiculous now for an entry level premium phone, much wrong with the new stuff with apple I felt but thats a different thread in the making.

 

I am now tempted to just buy a battery for my iPhone 4S and jump with my number from EE to three on a SIM only deal for my iPhone, though I am scared now that when iOS 8 lands its going to wreck my phone and make it slow in the way that 7 did that to my wifes iPhone 4, overnight it became sluggish and "laggy" when using it for no fathomable reason.

I'm in the same situation, contract ending in october....albeit not considering any sort of iphone. Currently using a 4S and feel that iOS is a total POS, but you know, personal opinion.

 

Previously had a HTC 8X, that was a lovely phone, and think it's a pity WP8 hasn't taken off better as it's miles better than iOS (Minus the store of course!) considering the xeperia Z3, HTC One M8, Galaxy S5....and any other ideas people throw at me. I'd have a HTC One M8 Windows phone in a heartbeat if they sold them over here though....(As i don't really do the whole "apps" thing anyway)

I've just done exactly what you are thinking . I've got iPhone 4s and was on EE and moved to their all you can eat with 200 mins for £15 a month . Prices are going up end of Sept . So far where I live I've got great coverage on 3G and my 3G has gone from 0.5mb/s with EE to 4.5 with Three. They also allow you to tether so can't see why people wouldn't want to be with them in my area .
