So the package that was signed for and delivered yesterday morning turned up this afternoon.. Dad said the bloke came in, just grunted and declined when Dad offered to sign for the parcel!

DPD and Interlink Express are sister companies. We had an Interlink a Express driver that decided to take out the fence post to the electric gate, damaged his van and squashed our post. Was informed by builders working on site, didn't want to stop and talk to us, so I just took pictures on my phone and passed them to caretaker.

They too are self employed.

A different experience recently: got a big delivery from Appliances Online - cooker, fridge, washing machine - and the last thing the delivery team did before leaving was to photograph the items in the house so that they had evidence of delivery. Excellent service, ordered 1 a.m. on a Wednesday, delivered on Thursday morning, phone call from driver to confirm arrival time......

DPD anytime for me, cannot fault their service. Which eBuyer would allow us to pick which courrier, prepared to pay for a decent service if and when I get it.

Best service we got was from a Tesco Direct order of a Fridge/Freezer by an independant courier. We moved into our house on Friday, delivery slot available for Sunday, fine by us. Wasnt expecting it to turn up at 7am, (i was more than happy to accept it at that time) dropped on door step, was then asked if we wanted it unboxed, breathed to respond and it was unboxed and installed before I could answer.

So happy with the delivery guys I'd buy from TD again.

I actually haven't had any bad issues with YODEL, but admittedly I've very rarely ordered from them. Last thing I think I ordered was a memory foam mattress and pillow (and was fully expecting the 'left in a safe place') but lo and behold, it arrived without issue.

From all the bad press though, I would (and have, on multiple occasions) gone elsewhere and even paid more to avoid using YODEL. It's a bit of a turd solution, to be fair, you shouldn't really have to pay extra to change from a bad delivery service to a new one, but it's worth the money for me. Usually only works out at an extra £10 tops if I have to use an alternate supplier.

@Ketlane: +1 for Appliances Online. We ordered a new Hob. They turned up exactly when they said they would, handled the package with the appropriate amount of care you would expect when delivering a glass hob, were courteous and helpful about where I wanted the hob put. I would certainly order from them again.

@MatthewL: Yep. Same here. DPD all the way.

I've done the same. As a matter of fact I maintain the exorbitantly priced 'Amazon Prime' service SPECIFICALLY to avoid YODEL as almost all of my Amazon Prime deliveries are either Parcelforce (who are pretty good 80% of the time and at least aren't as hard to collect from as YODEL) or DPD.

Will be using the premium delivery from now on!

Not sure if this is Yodel but I like this one.

The top one looks like Hermes. Although I have to say HOW? How did that even happen?

That has to be a fake!

I thought it was real and posted on Twitter because Hermes sent a couple of people round with a ladder to get it off said roof.

Just received an e-mail receipt for a keyboard I ordered..

Shipment Created 11/11/2014 10:00:13

Carrier: YODEL

:(

Good luck! I hate couriers now! A friend shipped me some home brewed beer from Sweden (He has a micro brewery out there now!) and I had a missed delivery notification... depot was about 40mins away so tried to get it delivered to local post office (Additional £1), the list didn't work so in the end I actually spoke to a human operator. All arranged for it to be dropped at the post office... come home the next day and our neighbour pops in with the parcel, they delivered it again the next day!

To add to the courier horror stories, my worst experiences;

FedEx, a few years ago, I ordered a hockey stick online, was excited about it arriving, got home from work the day it was due and there was no sign of it, no note to say they'd missed us. I walked into the kitchen and tripped over a box. They'd jumped over the 6ft side gate and forced it through the locked, now broken, catflap in the back door. :|

Another, this was CityLink. We were awaiting a delivery of a digital camera for my brother's christmas present. Christmas eve morning, the van pulls up outside, in the time it took me to get my front door key which can't have been more than 30 seconds he'd been and stuck a "Sorry we missed you" note through the door and was back in his van, didn't bother knocking. I went out to get his attention but he ignored me and drove off, I was stood 2ft away from his van, he was looking at me and just drove off...

We had to collect from the depot on the 27th, they got a right earful off my dad :p

Oh well there's no surprise..

Something as important and sentimental as that.. Why on earth would you send them via YODEL?! It's almost as if people don't research companies reputations and just use the lowest bidder..
