I'm going for the filling next week and that costs £50.50 but does that include the original check up and do I only have to pay the balance of £32.00?

featured_spectre Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 If you have to be referred for treatment later on, the cost of the original checkup should be removed from the cost of the next band of treatment that you require. I had a checkup, and one of my crowns had cracked, so I had the whole tooth removed in the end because it wasn't worth re-crowning again. Checkup at the time cost me £17.50, and the remaining cost was £32 when I had the tooth removed. 1
AMLinington Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 Usually when I have a checkup I have to pay for that then if I need a filling it's another appointment and the price is £45. Either way still cheaper than private dentistry where they seem to make up the prices on the spot! 1
eyetea Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 I had to have a root canal done on one of my front teeth (Dentist thought it may have been due to having braces - the tooth next to it moved a long way and they thought that could have damaged it). They asked if I could have it done privately because the root was wonky or something and they didn't know if they could do it effectively. £350 later and back in to remove the temporary filling the private dentist did, so all in approx £400! Oh well at least I got a free white filling as it was a front tooth! Also the private dentist took a photo of my tooth to take to a talk on root canals because of how little discolouration it had! 1

Brainy89 Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 i was private from birth to 18 when we had to pay for the work, couldnt afford over 200 for 2 fillings and a checkup so left them for nhs, had to have 4 fillings and some other work and cost a fraction of the price of private

I;m with them as well - they're great Also, they seem to have a deal with our Uni, so I have a custom scale (somewhere between 1 & 2 - £100 for dental and £100 for glasses) Would recommend them if anyone is looking....

Im having 6 teeth removed (got really soft teeth so prone to decay and breaking even with specialist toothpaste) and its costing me less! lol

Thats correct, our prescriptions are free too, I think there's still a charge in England ? Car park charges have gone here thankfully, used to be a proper PITA in the local hospitals when visiting.
laserblazer Posted July 17, 2014 Author Posted July 17, 2014 My wife is disabled and going to the Orthopedic dept at the hospital is a real pain for her. There are a handful of disabled bays but they are invariably taken and she has to park half a mile away. When she asked why there weren't enough spaces she was told that there were enough for the people visiting the department. It's the visitors going to the main hospital parking there because it's free.
Bananas Posted July 17, 2014 Posted July 17, 2014 We have an ADP dental plan, totally private practice costs £9.99 a month each. I get guaranteed same day appointment if i'm in pain. No further charges at all except for Crowns, Bridges etc and they only use white fillings. Got to say it's the best dentist I have ever been to and knowing there's nothing extra to pay, not even for root canal work is a huge relief
