jmcdermott Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 Citroen Xsara 90bhp Diesel HDI Long MOT | Poole | Gumtree Wanna buy my car? Just gone through and MOT, 272,000 miles. Wow that is impressive.
samba_man Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 A '97 Citroen XM 2.1 TD with 220,000 on the clock here! I'm a big fan of the Peugeot/Citroen diesels. 1
Earthling Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 My Focus CC has a big a$$ hard top, so winter winning! Actually, I was surprised at how weather-proof the soft top was during that winter. The previous owner was a mechanic who kept it as a plaything, garaged for eight months of the year and perfectly maintained. I'll have it re-proofed at the end of the rainy season.....sorry.....summer, then I'll think about selling it.
Oaktech Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 Wow that is impressive. Not even the highest mileage vehicle I've had. I had an M reg peugeot 405 turbo diesel that had been a taxi at some point in it's 4-owner life and when I bought it in 2003 it had 299,000 on the clock. I gave £280 for it (£50 more than the scrappers offered) I ran it for 3 years and put another 65k on it. It needed a lot of suspension bushes and a new exhaust at one MOT, but other than that went through MOTs with no issues. It's major issue was that it ate electric window mechs! I sold it to a bloke for £400 and the last time I ran into him in 2012 it was still going with just shy of 400k but it had had a recon gearbox on it.
Joanne Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 yeah if you look after the soft tops they can be ok. I've had a couple of MG TF's in the past. They got a bit flappy on the motorway!!! I love this focus. It's not the best looking from the back, but it handles so well with the roof off.... love it!
cpjitservices Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 Pug and Citroen Diesels are spot on... But then most diesels are.. 200,000 is a drive around the block for those diesels... same as the Ford Duratorq engines... they went on forever.... My focus 1.6 Zetec SE has 87k on the clock.... i'm hoping I can put a lot more on it than that! - - - Updated - - - Pug and Citroen Diesels are spot on... Joanne Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 I know that our Ford Focus 55 reg 1.6d has a peugeot engine, apparently. Car manufacturers always make bits for each other.

Miscbrah Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 I know that our Ford Focus 55 reg 1.6d has a peugeot engine, apparently. Car manufacturers always make bits for each other. Yup, all sorts of Bosch bits for example go into Vauxhall/Saab etc cars form the 90s. Interestingly enough, chassis get shared too. Interestingly enough, if you find a car with the same chassis, the engine mounts might be the same. Interestingly enough, if they're the same, the transmission might fit OR be hybridisable with your own/top model of your own. Interestingly enough, the other car might have more powerful engines in the range than yours... Guess what I did with this information?? ;P 1
AJWhite1970 Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 My 02 plate Honda Jazz and I did 175000 miles together before the gearbox finally failed on it (and even then it tried to carry on for a while without 3rd gear but the exhaust fell off shortly after and at that point I scrapped the car...)
