I might be treating myself go a GoPro tonight after work as its my Birthday just want to grab anyones thoughts/feelings/advice on them. Looking at getting the Hero+ Black Edition from John Lewis will try and get them to price match Argos who have it up pretty cheap.

So yeah I know a few of you use them on Quadcopters etc just wondering what people would recommend? I would mainly use it for cycling but also football practice, swimming, ice hockey and probably some underwater stuff in the holidaisys :D

Cheers

I can't for the life of me remember the name of it (AutoDog, AutoLeash, something like that?) but there's a Quadracoptor with a GoPro mount and smartphone/smartwatch software being developed so it will follow you like an airborne video camera.. Sounds kinda neat.

I absolutely love mine and use it for all sorts of things from cycling, zorbing, mountain boarding, days out with the kids and attaching it to the dog to see what life is like for him whilst out for a walk!!!!

As @hardtailstar has said, it is worth getting the extra mounts/tripods/harnesses for it...but that all depends how you're going to use it. I use my cycle helmet mount and chest harness/mount the most.

I've tried a mates cheaper GoPro copy and I have to admit that the difference is very notable.

Happy Birthday by the way!!

Hehe now I want one! Think the dog would go absolutely nuts if we tried to attach anything to him though. He didn't much like his Santa Paws Christmas hat.

@SiliconAlley_Sam - he didn't mind at all, but he is a pretty laid back type of dog. I initially attached it to his collar (he's a big dog!) but it bounced about too much. The next time I tried it I borrowed a harness from a friend who's a police dog handler and attached it to that so that it was sat on his chest (just below his neck)....that produced some great footage.

Thanks for the replies people :D sounds awesome can't wait. You guys use the original gopro mounts/chest mounts/head mounts or are the cheaper alternatives off ebay just as good?

Happy Birthday,

I have the Hero 3 White and the Hero 2.

I won the 3 in a competition. Apart from the wifi setup and control using the iPhone App, the 2 is way better in quality so my advice, is go for the Silver, Black or Black+

The other thing is the size of the files, an hour of footage is about 2Gb if not more so you need at least a 16Gb card, if not 32. The Hero3 uses the microSD cards. Make sure you have a PC powerful enough to edit the video.

Enjoy it, take it everywhere and record stuff. I recently did a year 8 video of our residential camp. Sometimes forget the mounts, and improvise, duck tape and string. (oh and tether it, the mounts can come off as I found out!)

@Griff - I've got a mix of original and cheaper alternatives. I've had a couple of cheaper ones that just weren't up to the job, but I've also got a couple that are just as good as the originals.....but are a third of the price.

As @rad said....depending on what you're doing tether it off with some string, I nearly lost mine when kite boarding.

Have you considered the Drift Ghost S ? Drift Ghost-S | Drift Action Cameras I use one on my crash helmet because I didn't want a big rectangular GoPro and they are comparable in terms of price and quality I think.

I had a look matey cheers they look very decent but I quite like the idea of it being rectangular for mounting on the chest for football (I play in goal)

The only thing I can say is... wait...

I'm sure I read somewhere that the Hero 4 was coming out very soon!

Might be an even nicer present to yourself ;)

happy birthday.

The 3 is super cool. i have a 2, and spent nearly the same amount if not more on accessories (original).

If it comes with a basic mount kit, then wait and see what you actually need, as half the stuff i have i never use.

The sucker pad mount for the car is good if you want to record random driving (it's pretty random out here).

One thing worth getting is a decent case for transport. I got something off amazon i think, and it stores teh camera plus the extra casings, remote, wifi, mounts, dive pole etc.

Aren't you actually not saving anything, since it was already that price at Curry's? You could've just bought it there :p

You'd only be saving if John Lewis sold it to you at less that Curry's were selling it at.

John Lewis provide a 2 year warranty whereas Currys only give you standard 1 year.
