A quick poll to find out peoples wifi setup.

The main part of the site is covered, the other part was meant to be done at summer but an unforeseen server upgrade has put that off!

 

Ideally I like to setup people's devices so that I don't have to give the password out & risking pupils finding it out, however this isn't always the case.

We have a secure WiFi for college supplied devices and a guest WiFi for everyone else.

Yeah that's an issue if your using a key based system I suppose, personally we use Radius and WPA2 Enterprise.

Full coverage and I set it up on each machine, I don't mind staff having the Wi-Fi password try not to let the children have it just yet, I want to create a Guest SSID so that guests can only access the internet and not the internal network but county won't give me control, Why you ask? No idea.

Yeah, I was meaning more with handheld devices like phones and tablets. Staff laptops are unable to see the password and BYOD isn't used much in the school, certainly not for pupils, yet.

We currently have part of the site covered but we will be fully covered after the Summer break. My response in the poll reflects our WiFi status as it will be after September 2014.

Now have the whole site covered with 21 Unifi UAP's.

 

Cant fault them. Put them in few weeks ago.

Just upgrading them all. Click the roll update button and its great watching them go down one at a time to update and watching which AP the computers move to.

I need to get a life I know.

 

So much better than changing setting on each point manually.

20 Unifi AP's here, full site coverage, works like a dream!

Cisco 54G blanket wireless... Motorola "hotspots" for N coverage in a few places, no public WiFi.

Just to add, we have quite good coverage in our main buildings and boarding houses but they are self managed plus we manually setup students own devices (currently about 300 units)
