Max_Power Posted May 12, 2014 Posted May 12, 2014 Currently trying to setup the BACs eAdvices on a SIMS centrally hosted FMS but currently getting errors. On the configuration page I've entered the following; Server = smtp.office365.com Port = 25 or 587 (tried both) Username = [email protected] Password = userpassword User STARTTLS Encryption = tried with and without Requires authentication = Yes Return address = [email protected] When I hit test connection I get the error "Connection to specified server failed". Asked SIMS but they have been less than helpful saying nothing to do with them basically and wouldn't confirm if it is even possible on a hosted solution. Has anyone managed to get this working on a hosted FMS with O365 or see whats wrong with config above? Logged into O365 and the smtp.office365.com is listed and correct so unsure whats wrong if its not the capita end? Cheers
Max_Power Posted May 15, 2014 Author Posted May 15, 2014 Sorry to bump but has anyone any ideas? Capita saying its not their issue, and both Microsoft and RM saying its not theirs but Capita's as they host the software, which makes total sense and is what I anticipated, but stuck in crossfire at moment with nothing else to try.
teejay Posted May 15, 2014 Posted May 15, 2014 From the computer you are setting up the BACS, have you tried connecting to the SMTP server using telnet on port 25 and sending a test email? Instructions for doing this are here - How To Test Exchange SMTP operations using Telnet We had problems setting FMS BACS up here using our internal Exchange server, the solution was to set up a seperate SMTP connector, don't know if this can be done in Office 365.
Max_Power Posted May 15, 2014 Author Posted May 15, 2014 Cheers @teejay I dont believe I can do that because the software is hosted by Capita and we access it through an RDS connection, its not actually installed in the school anywhere.
teejay Posted May 15, 2014 Posted May 15, 2014 Is it running as a remote desktop or as a remote app? If as a desktop then it should work if telnet has been enabled, if not then I'd ask Capita to enable it so you can do some diagnostics. TBH, if Capita are hosting it and it's their software then really its up to them to find a solution.
sammy42 Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 hi maxpower are you still having issues with fms bacs
PhilNeal Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 If we are hosting your database this is an issue we should address - BACS is an important service. Please re-contact the desk and I'm sure they will help. Please raise to a manager if you don't get a proper answer.
Max_Power Posted May 21, 2014 Author Posted May 21, 2014 Cheers @PhilNeal and @sammy42 managed to get it going in the end. Required the use of the Capita server details with no encryption or authentication.
Ashford Posted October 2, 2014 Posted October 2, 2014 Max_Power Back in May you had a problem with getting BACS working within FMS if using Office 365. My school business manager is at her wits end, as calls to Capita and our LEA support desk are getting her nowhere. Could you tell me the solution to your problem. Thanks
Pyroman Posted May 15, 2015 Posted May 15, 2015 BUMP We have SIMS installed on our own server and use office 365 provided by the LA and i'm having the same issue. "Connection to specified server failed". Any thoughts?
mardinium Posted May 19, 2015 Posted May 19, 2015 Hi Pyroman, I was faced with the same thing, the settings I used: Mail server: smtp.office365.com port number: 587 Use STARTTLS Encryption: Ticked Requires Authentication: Ticked username: Your O365 email password: Your O365 password EMAIL SETUP Return Email address: Same email as above Hope this help, Dave 1
Ben-at-work Posted June 12, 2015 Posted June 12, 2015 Sorry to bump! We're having the same problems, have tried the above but still getting the same error, is there anything else we could try?
Achandler Posted June 12, 2015 Posted June 12, 2015 (edited) We use an internal relay. Our internal SMTP server is setup (as above I believe, I can and will double check). Then internally FMS, and other programs send to our internal IP address and port, then it is relayed externally. I tried doing it direct but it didn't work for me, and FMS gives you nothing to go off when it doesn't work. Atleast this method meant mails failing I could see why and re-send them. Server details that our relay sends too: Server: smtp.office365.com Port: 587 Basic Auth with TLS ticked Email Account: [email protected] Email Password: Thisaccountspassword Edited June 12, 2015 by Achandler Server Details Added
Ben-at-work Posted June 12, 2015 Posted June 12, 2015 Turned out just to be a blocked port , thanks anyway.
divadiow Posted January 19, 2017 Posted January 19, 2017 I'm having issues with this. Have requested the SWGFL confirm all IPs behind smtp.office365.com have been allowed over TCP 587 outbound from the school. what firewall CRs have you had to submit yourselves?
