2014 Lenovo Touchpad design!

Anyone else used the new touch/trackpads on Lenovo X240, E531 etc? Finding them absolutely dire!

 

Using one makes me think of the equally tragic BlackBerry Storm!

We have T440's with this trackpad. Some of the staff love it, I can't stand it - much prefer to have separate buttons than having to make sure I press it in a precise location in the bottom-right to make it right-click, otherwise the entire square behaves as a tap/left-click.

 

Looks sleek, yes, but just doesn't work.

the trampoline ones with buttons on top? they are dreadful

So many accidental clicks etc and it just feels very clunky. Before I used one I thought it looked nice but it especially ruins trackpad use for me. I'd pay extra for some buttons back!

Similar (bit smaller) on Fujitsu's we've supplied. I don't like it at all.

 

However it's always been fine on my mac - and on the 'magic trackpad' I have for my iMac.

I have one like that on mine - I don't have a problem.

 

I'm just about to get a new T440 so hopefully it will be similar

We have the e531 model, have you configured the lenovo touchpad software for them, it does improve the usability, ie speed of scrolling and restricting movement when typing etc.

Thanks I'll look into that next week as I'm a bit worried the users will find them to be quite frustrating!

I've used L440s and X240s in a couple of schools now, and the trackpads are pretty awful until the UltraNav drivers are installed, at which point they become more MacBook-esque in the way they work and aren't too bad.

I've got my T440s and the trackpad was a little strange to get used to but after a day or two i got used to it

We have T440's and at first I thought they were pants but then after using the Lenovo system updater and installing the synaptics drivers and software realised it's more a config issue as once I configured the touchpad how I wanted it to work it was great and worked fine

Yeah the Lenovo system updater is brilliant - My laptop is really nice, not sure if it is 100% the same as the T440 as it is the S range (its this) but then I liked the touchpad on my old one and everybody hated that!

We have the E351s here, and yes, they are dire. But eh, I don't have to use them!

I still prefer apples touch pads so magic trackpad or the ones on the mac book pro's as the gestures and using them just work

I recently purchased a Lenovo X220 from ICT-Direct and I'm still not sure on the trackpad. It doesn't always seem to register clicks, especially if you still have a finger on the trackpad as it then thinks you're doing a 2-finger click. I find that when clicking the mouse often jumps a little bit also I miss having proper buttons!!

Yep its horrid I have an X1 Carbon at my disposal and its forever jumping, it has no brains for when typing I clip it and make a mess of the document I am working on etc.... its a horrid thing as a result I have no desire to use one if that is how Lenovo are going across the board.
