So will anyone be staying up to watch the possible end to union or just wait for the cold light of day to get the result?

 

John Snow's swingometer is going to be pretty boring for this referendum plus no exit polls, looks like the commentators will be playing cliché bingo as they wait for results.

 

Will wait until I wake up I think! Despite the statement that there will be no challenge to the result, I think that there will be a lot of bitterness coming out from the Yes campaign and supporters if it doesnt go how they want.

 

The only thing to look forward to is whichever way is goes, Alex Salmond is going to be in a hole.

The local council are fools who have squandered the previous oil fund and I know very few with confidence in them to run Shetland (or a tap) let alone Shetland as a country.

They would threaten and negotiate to try and get a refresh of the old oil fund they squandered away.

I cant remember the exact figure but the SIC funded a new ferry for Foula (around £15m I think), with custom pier only to take delivery to find out it failed all sea worthiness tests and was liable to capsize.

Exactly why there isn't any Nuclear Power Stations their too, they have a large resource of fresh water cooling but the threat from IRA stopped construction and even any planning. There are few active Nuclear Power Stations in Scotland (Most of them are currently being decommissioned by the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (Who is an executive department of the Dept of Energy and Climate Change)) - if Scotland goes independent they will be stuck potentially with non-working stations that require clean-up, thats already a big chunk of money allocated before they even start to plan a new welfare, education and health policies.

 

But with their nuclear free policies, are they going to remove their currently active and working power stations that -> "Nuclear Power accounts for approximately 50% of Scotland's electricity demand. Torness generates about 1200MW and Hunterston 800MW" (18 January 2008)

Absolutely. People feel remarkably divorced from the national decision making processes in my view. I'd be pro-federalisation personally. Give us all closer control over more of our lives.
