Last gen used console prices flatlining

Just had a look on eBay (out of interest) and see that the prices for used Xbox 360's and Wii's has almost hit rock bottom. I'm not talking about bundles here, but just the console + controllers.

The Xbox 360 now goes for less than £50 and it's interesting to see people listing theirs for £70+ with absolutely no one bidding on them.

The Wii is even worse with them now about £35.

In fact the only console doing ok-ish is the PS3 at about £100, although I don't see many people bidding on them. It'll be interesting to see how low these prices have dropped by the summer.

The wii is going on facebook selling sites with the wii fit board and a few (5-10) games for £40.

Was thinking of selling my PS3 now I have a PS4, but for £100 it just isn't worth it, I regretted selling my PS2 when the PS3 came out so not making that mistake again.

I wonder how long before the XboxOne price starts falling?

Not a chance I'd sell our PS3, there are so many fantastic games from the current gen that I haven't played - I still have a backlog of AAA PS2 games!

In fact my PS3 died about 4-5months before the PS4 launch, I had to replace it same day with a new Super Slim! - And I've got a backlog of XBox, PS1 and older games! Too meny games, not enough time

I'm getting rid of one of my PS3s when I get a 4 - but that's to a friend who'll then have the same setup as me.

 

I find it quite interesting that before the PS4/XBoxOne came out - there seemed to be a large number of people getting PS3s to 'get used to the controller'...

 

I think the PS3 market is still alive due to the whole PSN+ thing, with free games (for those willing to separate with £40 a year), it makes it quite a good investment.

With the PS3 you could play all PS1/PS2 and PS3 games on 1 console if it was a certain model, if not PS1 and PS3 games, so all had some backward compatability.

 

Xbox 360 could play some Xbox games.

 

The Wii could play Gamecube games

 

Now we have PS4, currently only plays PS4 games, Xbox One, only plays Xbox One games, so i am wondering if people will be hanging onto the previous generation this time because they cannot play their exitsing collection on it. (I know something is coming for Playstation for backwards compatability but it aint here yet)

I have my 360 and my xb1. I wont sell the 360 as it has a whole load of life left in it. No complaints here at all

Current gen consoles are just not powerful enough to emulate the last gen so there'll be no backwards compatibility there (the current talk for PS4 is for PS1/2 era only). So, yeah, I think there's probably something there. I certainly don't want to get rid of my PS3 library yet. Maybe Playstation Now will convince me otherwise in time?

Bundles are getting bids, but even then they are finishing at not much more than consoles on their own.

Do you keep the old console to play your older games which, I have to be honest here, doesn't happen as much since you got your new shiny shiny or sell now before the bottom really drops out of the market and it ends up as the unsold item at a car boot sale?

As more new consoles get sold, there will be an almost equal amount hitting the used market. Once they end up at PS2 (£25 with games if you are lucky) or the original Xbox (£15!!) price levels then you have probably lost out big time.

A better estimate could be had once the first quarter sales for both next gen console are out in the next month or so to judge take-up levels.

But on the other hand - I've played AC:IV. Nothing else of interest on the PS4 at the moment. Currently Playing AC:Liberation HD on the PS3 while I wait for The Last Of Us DLC to be released. New console - long wait for quality games (hopefully not a Wii-U length wait though...). That said this months PS+, Outlast, is good - shame it's first person (does my stomach in).

You're thinking too short-term.

 

You treat these like retro consoles [Atari, NES, et al] and keep them for when you get the urge to play an old game.

 

It's also help you save on re-buying the same game multiple times.

Ive kept my PS1, PS2 and PS3 although haven't invested in a PS4 yet.

Cxbx, Dxbx and Xeon by any chance? Xeon plays the NTSC copy of Halo and thats it. They haven't exactly progressed in development terms for years.

I went to my uncles the other day and he had a PS4 he has two TV's one 32" 1080p Toshiba and the exact same but 40". He played the latest call of Duty on the PS4 and I played it next to him on Ps3 and really couldn't differentiate the difference between the graphics the games looked almost identical? Has the PS4 got better graphics than the PS3 in real world terms they look exactly the same. Although only played call of duty on them.
