VeryPC_Ross Posted May 21, 2015 Posted May 21, 2015 (edited) @j224 I would say smart notebook is probably the best it's ever been, they have recently release SN 15. If you're already using smart notebook can cost you as little as £ 12.00 per Unit. Full feature list you can find here > https://www.very-pc.co.uk/products/interactive/smart-notebook Would highly recommend the SMART Advantage .. Edited May 21, 2015 by VeryPC_Ross
Michael Posted May 21, 2015 Posted May 21, 2015 I'm curious to know, what version are most of you using of Smart Notebook? Most installs I'm using 10.8 and one site are using 11.2/4. Anything newer of this creates too much lag when drawing a line, even with a decent i3 CPU, 4GB+ of memory. Anyone else having such difficulties? The latest/newer versions of Smart Notebook all look the same since version 11 on the surface, but each new version seems to get bigger and more resource hungry. Promethean ActivInspire is much better/quicker compared to Smart Notebook 2015. Never had any issues with lag.
sparkeh Posted May 21, 2015 Posted May 21, 2015 I'm curious to know, what version are most of you using of Smart Notebook? 11.4 - The last free version. And that's where its staying until we transition to touchscreens (which is in the school's long term plan).
LeMarchand Posted May 21, 2015 Posted May 21, 2015 I'm curious to know, what version are most of you using of Smart Notebook? Whatever the last one before they changed the licensing terms was!
localzuk Posted May 21, 2015 Posted May 21, 2015 We're on version 2014.3, and will be moving to the latest version during summer.
Michael Posted May 21, 2015 Posted May 21, 2015 You see, I find this very interesting - I suspect Smart are probably selling/including a license with new boards, but it doesn't mean customers are actually using the newer version. What about lag? Version 11 is lag ish on some devices I find. - - - Updated - - - We're on version 2014.3, and will be moving to the latest version during summer. So what typical spec workstation are you running 2014 and soon Smart Notebook 2015 on?
LeMarchand Posted May 21, 2015 Posted May 21, 2015 New boards? What would one of those be? Not had any lag reported. There are some problems, but these are usually down to projector movement and/or teachers sticking stuff to the board/edges.

What about lag? Version 11 is lag ish on some devices I find. It takes a few seconds to open but once open its fine. Snappy and works well. So what typical spec workstation are you running 2014 and soon Smart Notebook 2015 on? Our standard laptops are i5s with 4GB RAM. Most are still running HDDs, but half a dozen are now SSDs.

LeMarchand Posted May 21, 2015 Posted May 21, 2015 11.4 seems ok to us. Installation is what takes an age for us, its ridiculous! I find that installing the lesson plans and gallery from local/network store helps - otherwise it takes an age downloading them all (the default).
edutech4schools Posted May 21, 2015 Posted May 21, 2015 Some of my schools are on the new and some not. Not much difference speed wise between them. We needed to update some schools due to a Windows 8.1 issue causing the images in a page to either move to a different part of the page or turn into black squares where the image was.
sted Posted May 21, 2015 Posted May 21, 2015 10.8 or earlier 11's in my schools. Still have some older 500 series boards and 10.3 (iirc) complains like a female dog about them and i found i got complaints when i went from 10.x to 11.x from teachers so i just leave it there unless a specific board needs it (and boy are the newer "tin" boards awful. With 11.x i just dont have to worry about lics i can just deploy it to any computer in school and it will be on them so 0 worry this new cough up every year licence just seems like it would complicate matters
