It's more that I just want someone to have a look at my run and tell me what sort of trainers I ought to be going for :) although I'd happily pay a bit extra if it meant I wasn't hobbling round like an OAP! That said, since I've stopped massively over-doing it my knees have felt fine so it might be that my current trainers are perfectly fine. They are pretty comfy.

There's a Park Run very near my house, I just haven't quite worked up the courage to try it yet :o. I'm hoping another few weeks of the Couch to 5k and I might start feeling ready to run where other people can see me!

It's bizarre isn't it? If someone told me 3/4 months ago that I'd be enjoying running or that it'd be having such a positive impact on my life I'd have laughed let alone that I'd be absolutely miserable having to take a few weeks off to let my knees recover! :D

My graduation run for my C25K was a 5k race in Milton Keynes, the first competitive running I'd done for 40 years ... since I was at school, I was so pleased to finish under the 30 minute mark (In fact I was just pleased to finish), the Parkruns are really good, everyone is there just for a bit of fun but it's amazing how competitive yo become, even with yourself. I've put the Endomondo App on my iphone and that gives me some good feedback on laptimes, fastest 1k etc as well as being able to go onto the website and plan runs on their interactive map.

I too can't believe the impact that running has made and I just wish I'd started earlier rather than waiting until I was 55 lol :)

Competitive, eh? :D For someone who has never been particularly good at sports I am unbelievably competitive! I think you'd like a Fitbit. The main appeal for me is being able to constantly compete with myself and other people.

Sore knees are (amongst other things) a clear sign of doing too much, too soon. Either running too far, too long or too quick (or a combination). As I said in earlier posts, rest days are just as important (if not more) as your running/training days. If you have an ache, pain etc. its your body telling you you have done too much, or something is not right. Continuing running, whilst aching or in pain just because you don't like rest days is not really beneficial to anyone, or your body.

so yes, your trainers may be fine, and it may had been just a case of you doing too much, too soon...but there is no harm in a getting a gait analysis. Usually free, go and find your local SweatShop.

I am hoping to start running again soon, had a car accident back in July, and did some ligament damage to my right knee, will build it up, and hope my shins dont flare up! :)

I'll have a look at Fitbit.

I have the Endomondo Life app too (only for iPhone 5) which counts your steps and tells you how many calories you've burned. It runs in the background and doesn't need me to remember to switch it on or anything (appears to have no effect on battery life either). So far today I've done 708 steps and burned 32 calories. Mind you, my phone has been sat on my desk most of the morning lol)

I had a lot of trouble with my knees around week 4/5. I took a week off to recover and used the time to look at running technique.

Did my first proper outdoor 10k last night. I was doing week 4 Run 1 as part of the Bridge to 10k program and finished my final 18 minute run at around 9k so thought I may as well continue to get the full 10 k in. Completed it on 61 minutes which I was well pleased with, (especially as that included 2 minutes of walking as part of the program).

What I'm not so well pleased with is the soreness in my achilles afterwards and this morning but hopefully a few days of not running will clear that up.

I've taken the couch to 5k and currently on 5 week.

Progress has been steady but I keep getting what feels like a semi dead foot. It's probably due to the muscles not being strong enough to take the pounding.

Has anyone else experienced this? Most running forums say it goes in a week or so.

Seems that I've bruised my Achilles according to my GP. No running for another couple of weeks :(

i have had that on a few occurrences. have you had your gait analysed? ans as mentioned above, maybe laced too tight and is a blood circulation issue

Just a quick heads up, for anyone interested, Aldi are doing one of their specials on running gear as of yesterday. Might go and get a jacket for when the bad weather gets here ...

On a different note, the Achilles seems to be easing a bit but still nowhere near ready for running yet :( Might try an hour on the bike at the weekend as it's driving me mad not being able to run.

I've been thinking of doing C25k for a while, after snagging a treadmill in the Amazon Black Friday deals I did my first session tonight. Had a slight problem at first as it's so long since I've ran (we're talking decades) but I do a lot of walking, my brain and body thought running = walking very fast, queue panic and falling off the back of the treadmill:eek:

Got back on, put brain in gear and everything went fine from then on:)

Having decided to sign up for the Great Manchester Run (10km) at the back end of last year, I thought I'd best make a start on training.

As a starting point I've decided to do the C25K and did my first training run last night. Thoroughly enjoyed it, never been much of a road runner, always been very happy on treadmills. Managed 3.8km on my first run in the 28 minutes allowed, so I think that's quite a good start.

Training run 2 is tomorrow night!

Did the Swindon Half Marathon in 2hrs 7mins 56secs. Should really have been <2hours but the game plan was "go slow and make sure you finish"

Have done a few 10k and 5mile road and cross country races in the interim. Will be doing 10mile Rough n Tumble this weekend. Signed up for the Reading Half Marathon in March.

PBs in 2014 were :

5k 24:05

10k 52:37

Half Marathon 2:07:57

Hope to add a Marathon in October and to improve on the above times during 2015.

Anyone else on TheRunningBug website?

After damaging my Achilles last year I've finally got back on the treadmill, done a few 5k runs but now plan to get back on the "Bridge to 10k" program. I was planning on doing the 10k race in the MK festival of running in March but that now clashes with a weekend away in Cornwall so I need to find another event to aim for.

Congrats on starting the C25K, you might want to look at the Bridge To 10k as your next step after the 5k finishes ... very similar, interval training building up to a 10k target.

I'm not really enjoying the treadmill if I'm honest. I find it boring. I much preferred the road running I did for my C25K. Having moved areas, I only really have the local park to run in and that isn't really that safe after dark ... a teenage girl recently got beaten to the floor and had her trainers stolen !!! So, I'm stuck at the gym until the lighter nights get here :(
