crwardell Posted January 26, 2016 Posted January 26, 2016 I use GarminConnect. It supports groups too. Could be persuaded to try Strava. Strava and garmin connect work well together. I use both with garmin watch. Strava automatically syncs with new runs put onto Garmin connect. I will create a group on Strava then :-) 1

forkies Posted January 26, 2016 Posted January 26, 2016 So I have been doing couch to 5k and just started week 5, I use strava and planned a 5km route out. I really thought I could run it and tried but had to stop after 2.5km or so and walk a bit then start again and then walk etc. However the following run today (2 days after) I have just run the whole 5km at about a 5:55/km pace. Feeling really chuffed to have pushed myself to do it. I am going to run it again for another week then start building up to 10km as my next target. 3
HarryMonkey Posted January 27, 2016 Author Posted January 27, 2016 Once you've finished the Couch to 5K, you might want to have a look at the Bridge to 10k program.

jdoyle Posted January 27, 2016 Posted January 27, 2016 it's a dirty job and looks like I'm doing it Relish Running Races 1
Iain.Faulkner Posted February 2, 2016 Posted February 2, 2016 it's a dirty job and looks like I'm doing it Relish Running Races Looks messy!! Got out a couple of times last week, Friday managed a decent 10km, new route and after an enforced week off it was pretty hard work. Got out on Sunday in torrential rain...managed 10km before phoning for help. It was seriously cold and I was utterly soaked :-( Not as far as I had wanted to get to (should have been up to 14km) but at least I got out. 1

Did a 13.64mile run the day before for a virtual fund raising event which was quite good. Have got the Longleat 10k this weekend and the Coventry Half Marathon on the 28th Feb. Well done for getting out! I don't mind getting soaked when it's warmish as I find I get much too hot but it's miserable getting soaked in the cold.
Iain.Faulkner Posted February 3, 2016 Posted February 3, 2016 Standard Tuesday night run last night....7.1km run, decent pace, set new records (according to Strava) on a couple of sections and broke the 5 minute for 1Km as wel, which was pretty pleasing :-) @jdoyle do you use energy gels at all? I'm toying with the idea of experimenting and don't really know what to do 1

I'm toying with the idea of experimenting and don't really know what to do Sounds like your running is getting better and better. Good stuff. I have used gels but don't as a rule - view them as marketing crap/placebo. I think the jelly babies handed out on events have the same effect and are a lot cheaper. Lots of discarded gel wrappers at events - a hazard to other runners. 1
eyetea Posted February 3, 2016 Posted February 3, 2016 Able to get back on the cross trainer after injuring my toe 2 Sunday's back. Only just starting to be able to walk normally on my right foot again this week, will give it a clear week after having no issues walking until I get back on the treadmill properly. Never thought I'd say this but actually feeling miffed about not being able to do sporty stuff! 1

Thanks for that, I was looking at using Haribo (I love their golden bears so so much)....I've bought some of the SiS energy gels to give them a whirl as well. Just feel like I need something when I'm doing the much longer runs.
jdoyle Posted February 3, 2016 Posted February 3, 2016 Just feel like I need something when I'm doing the much longer runs. Can empathise with that feeling. Got some Haribo like sweet doing a half marathon last year and it was a god send. I would normally wolf something like this down in milliseconds but had it in the inside of the cheek and just enjoyed it while running. Did the trick for me.
forkies Posted February 4, 2016 Posted February 4, 2016 Glad everyone seems to be enjoying their running! I went out last night and did 10.5km after the first 5km last week, really starting to get into it and shaved 30s/Km from my time between those last week and last night. I might start training for a half marathon or something? Only issue is one of my toes is starting to bleed as (I think I broke it when I was young and it's at a slight angle so it catches) hopefully nothing else will go wrong! 2

Might be worth doing a couple of 10k events if thinking about going for a HM. Maidenhead HM in September? Toe sounds worrying. Any padding you can add in the sock or shoe?
forkies Posted February 4, 2016 Posted February 4, 2016 Thanks, yes I think that Maidenhead Hm is probably a good aim. As for the toe, a plaster to stop it catching I think is the solution! Thanks for the support, really motivates me 1
AJWhite1970 Posted February 5, 2016 Posted February 5, 2016 I refereed a football match for the first time in 2 months yesterday after not having done any exercise since before Christmas (variety of reasons, mostly resting after suffering from plantar fasciitis) and recorded 4.3 miles in a 60 minute match with no ill effects this morning

Thanks for the support, really motivates me I like a nice simple solution :-) Fingers crossed it works for you. Have you looked at compression socks as well? something a bit tighter that doesn't rub as much?
Iain.Faulkner Posted February 5, 2016 Posted February 5, 2016 Got out for my next HM training run last night. A nice 10.3km run with three much quick KM's at the end (down to under 5 mins 20 seconds per km). Overall decent pace, sadly it was at rush hour so I had a few pauses for trying to cross roads which made a bit of a mess of my overall time. Think I need to re-configure Strava to pause when I stop moving. 1

Reffing is great exercise with all the sprinting, jogging, change of pace and direction. Not a lot of hill work fortunately :-)

Not a lot of hill work fortunately :-) I used to ref many years ago (did my badge when I was about 15 and did it for about 4 years). Gave it up as it wasn't worth the hassle for £6 a game (plus it was pretty intimidating as a 16 year old getting people hurling abuse at you). 1
AJWhite1970 Posted February 5, 2016 Posted February 5, 2016 I referee grammar school matches where most of the footballers are rugby players as well so you still get some abuse but it ends in Sir so not all bad. I've been on a few hill side pitches in my time where the crossbar of the bottom goal as been below ground level at the top of the pitch so severe has the slope been!!! There's a pitch just outside of Dorchester that's a real killer, in fact I've just google mapped it and apparently it's a 16 foot drop from top to bottom....!!!

Only did Level 7. Enjoyable up to U16 - I was way too slow to keep up with play then. Took up coaching badges after that. My eldest is now coaching the team I looked after; my youngest is the goalkeeper. The youngest is now going out doing some runs and is about to inherit my Garmin Forerunner and may well be doing some 5k events shortly.
