How old are your kids, @sippo?

My two are 9 and 11. They are semi-independent now but too young to be left for long periods while I run.

My normal alarm clock time is 6.20am to allow for getting everyone ready then dropping youngest off before I start work at 8am. Occasionally I have been known to do a 5.15 alarm clock in order to squeeze in a run, but I am not a morning runner!

My after-work routine is pick up youngest, get home in time to meet eldest, make dinner, supervise homework etc. My other half gets home from work at around 7pm by which time I am in my kit and ready to head out the door. He oversees bedtime (much easier now they're older) and we eat when I get back. If he's late home, I go out later, though I don't like going out much later than 8.30pm just from a personal safety point of view.

I haven't found training up for the half to be particularly demanding on my time. Two normal runs during the working week and a long run over the weekend - I tend to get up early to do that one so I am back by the time the household are getting up and having breakfast.

And well done @jdoyle on your long run and new PB!

They are 18 months and 4 years. The wife also works and we need to leave the house by half 7.

I used to run in the mornings, but with getting the eldest ready for school, it's just not possible.

It's a shame cos I can run 12 miles (did my last 12 mile Tough Mudder in 2 and a half hours), but need to still keep it going.

I'll just jack it in and get fat.

It's tough when they're tiny. I know when my kids were that age, my other half *could* have found time for running (or cycling in his case) but I was very grateful that he didn't.

Not that long until they are old enough to do parkrun with you :)

Only 11 weeks until my first HM.

I'm really struggling at the moment. I can't seem to run longer than 3k at the moment before my ankle plays up. Although I'm running 3 or 4 times a week meaning my weekly mileage is up there!

11 weeks to go from 3k to over 20k... really getting worried now. Might cut down on the number of runs and increase distance to see if that makes a difference.

are your shoes OK Sam? Do you have another pair you could try running in?

Another PB at the Cheltenham HM on Sunday. In at 1hr 56mins 44secs chip time.

beat this PB at the Cricklade HM this weekend - time down slightly to 1:55:15.

Followed by a 5.75mile jog home that felt harder than the race (the day was warming up, no water stations and running on own).

Now have a sore right shoulder from the arm movement :-(

Swindon HM this weekend. Should beat last years time of 2:07 if all goes well but it's unlikely that there'll be a new HM PB given the uphill bits of the course.

Well done @jdoyle.

I ran my first half marathon last weekend at the Bournemouth Marathon Festival. Finished in 2:21 - we'd been running comfortable 10 minute miles and was hoping to finish just under 2:10 but unfortunately my running buddy is still struggling with an injury so we had to slow down in the second half. Still pleased with my time and it gives me lots to aim for next time :)

well done with that run @ICTLady - first run at a new distance can be a bit daunting. I've not run in Bournemouth but keep seeing potential runs in the area and may yet get there sometime.

Have you plotted in your next HM yet?

Did the Swindon HM yesterday with a time of 1:53:30 - really didn't expect to be setting a PB on this course as the hills/inclines up to mile 6 are tough going. Suggests that I should have put in even better times on the recent HM's on flatter courses :-)

Had a good weeks worth of running last week, first week in a while where I've covered over 20km in the week :-)

Steady 8km on the Tuesday

Good 5km at Park run on Saturday (just 4 seconds off a pb)

Good paced 7.5km on Sunday :-)

Celebrated by spending a fortune on some new running shoes :-)

Went for a run on Sunday morning. The first since August. Ran 7 miles.

3 on road, 4 off. Much prefer off road, in the mud. It's harder, more enjoyable and less strain on the hips!

My back is knackered. I can't run for longer than 10 minutes without it absolutely crippling me. Really disappointed as I've already had to put off my first HM by two months. I' decided to give myself two weeks rest completely from running and all physical activity but the result is the same... crippling back pain. So frustrating as I played football the other night and no issues at all. Ugh. I need to book a physio I think but they aren't cheap...

:hurt:

Had a bad weeks running, for various reasons, managed to get out for my longer run today though and covered 12.4km :-) longest run so far and pretty pleased with the pacing/splits as well (averaging just under 9 minutes 30 seconds per mile).

Well done @jdoyle (nicely sneaked in under 4.5 hours, perfect timing!), @Iain.Faulkner, @sippo and all on your recent runs.

I did the Great South Run over half term - found it much harder than I expected, mainly as I hadn't trained half as much as I should (life getting in the way). That said, I was pleased with my time of 1:38:15, although I had to dig pretty deep to get it done.

@Sam_Brown, if you are not getting the back pain when you play football, then I wonder what it is about your running that is aggravating the back pain? Do you carry anything in your hand or on a belt when you run that might be affecting how you carry yourself or how you land? Have you tried changing route/terrain in case there's something about your normal running route (hard surface, camber etc) that is causing problems? Otherwise I wonder if it might be worth seeing a specialist physio who can do some gait analysis and see whether there's something about the way you run that's jarring your back, as whatever it is obviously doesn't affect you during football.

@ICTLady - I've recently changed shoes but I was having some back pain before that as well so don't think it was that. Route is the same route I always run and I hit a PB a few months back. Think you're right and going to have to go see a specialist. I do carry a phone for my music I might use one of those arm bands to see if that helps. I do recall hurting my back during the summer moving some servers and a VERY HEAVY ups so possible it's a follow on from that? Although still doesn't explain why it hurts running but not football although I appreciate the mechanics are different :/

Managed to get out for a quick run last night. Just 5.6km but run at a nice quick pace :-)

Just 5.6km? 5.6km sounds good to me. Well done!

Doing the Swindon RunVember Challenge at the moment - to do at least 1mile per day through November. Starting to notice how dark it's got and how slippery it is with all the leaves strewn across the pavements.

Ran constantly for 1.2KM for the first time ever last night! Seem to be getting the hang of breathing a little better too..! Aiming to book myself on a 5km run at some point around April, want to find a friend to do it with as I'm scared to do it just on my own!
