abillybob Posted January 14, 2015 Posted January 14, 2015 I luuuurrrrrrve coffee, although now I can't drink it turns out I have a very slight allergy to Coffee which puts me in stomach pains for the whole day, it's the same with Banana's.... Weird I know *sigh* I'm fine when drinking tea though so I normally drink that.
X-13 Posted January 14, 2015 Posted January 14, 2015 it's the same with Banana's.... Don't leave it like that! A banana's what? Also, relevant:

Oaktech Posted January 14, 2015 Posted January 14, 2015 This thread has just reminded me... My cup is empty. This situation must be remedied post haste.
DMcGuigan Posted January 14, 2015 Posted January 14, 2015 Not a fan of coffee at all, I've been made to drink it on occasion though. Yorkshire Tea, no sugar, just enough milk to colour it, strong enough to hold up it's own spoon. Only way to go.
Tesla Posted January 14, 2015 Posted January 14, 2015 Speaking of coffee, anyone got any of those dulce gusto nescafe machines?
elsiegee40 Posted January 14, 2015 Posted January 14, 2015 I am off coffee for January, down from 8 cups a day. Also alcohol, chocolate, cake (which isn't easy as I do loads of baking), and biscuits. Just trying to cut down a bit. Helps that I quite like green tea with lemon so still have something hot to drink. An alternative to dry January. Good luck! 1
DGardiner Posted January 14, 2015 Posted January 14, 2015 (edited) The cornerstone is the espresso. One large scoop of fine grounds, and just a little water through an Aeropress. Do not filter a full cup of water through, this is the wrong approach which will give you a bitter cup. Filtering a small quantity of hot (but not boiling) water through grounds will leave you with a strong, smooth espresso. Add water to dilute it to taste. I also use a Swissgold one-cup reusable filter thingy from Whittards. It's very good. MORE INFO! How do you do yours? i get bi weekly deliveries from https://www.pactcoffee.com and have usually settled on 1 scoop to 2 or 2 scoops to 4 on the aeropress stand for 2 minutes and press, that usually fills half my cup, which i then fill with warm milk - am i doing this wrong? the instructions on the aeropress and the guide that pact have for the aeropress say different things! EDIT: If anyone wants to try pact coffee for £1 for their first bag and score me a free grinder use this referral code: DAVID-HAYQMA Thanks Edited January 14, 2015 by DGardiner pimpin my code
jinnantonnixx Posted January 14, 2015 Posted January 14, 2015 I use the inverted method for the Aeropress and only wait for only about 20 to 30 seconds before inverting (to the correct way up) and pressing. Top up with water. I don't take milk - milk ruins most things. Look on Youtube for various methods and recipes using the Aeropress.

rickjames Posted January 14, 2015 Posted January 14, 2015 +1 for the Aeropress. Use the inverted method also, works well. As for coffee I'm ordering stuff from Rave at the moment, signature blend is great.
elsiegee40 Posted January 14, 2015 Posted January 14, 2015 (edited) Another aeropress inverter here. 1 scoop and 1 minute ish. I have drunk coffee black since working in France in the 1980s. Only sterilised milk was available and it tasted horrible! Edited January 14, 2015 by elsiegee40

Pact do good coffee. For my areopress I grind very, very fine - basically the same as I would do for my espresso machine at home. I use three large heaped teaspoons of grounds, I pour in water (not actually bubbling boiling, but the kettle doesn't need to stand around at all after the switch goes off), I stir and I leave it for 20-30 seconds. Much more and you will over extract the coffee and the brew will become bitter. I don't try and produce an espresso like product, so I use more water than @jinnantonnixx does. The only thing I don't like about the areopress is the lack of crema. I think I'm coming to the conclusion that a french press is the simplest way to produce really good coffee. It's just not quite as convenient for work use.
vikpaw Posted January 14, 2015 Posted January 14, 2015 I lurve coffee so after spending thousands at Starbucks decided to treat to this badboy Now just spend as much on beans but it goes so much further and is available at preset morning alarm time The biggest crime when it comes to coffee is when you hear people asking for an eXpresso. Seriously wtf? Is that a quick espresso?

gaz350b Posted January 14, 2015 Posted January 14, 2015 I used to be good in January.... Last year my misses brought me an nespresso machine, we also have Costa on site at our school....10 metres away from my desk.... Really not helpful when you try to kick the habit.
unixman_again Posted January 14, 2015 Posted January 14, 2015 I wish we had a Costa's on site. Our new dining room has a cafe which sells OKish coffee, but I still walk 5 mins up the road to Caffe Nero. I walk past Costa to get there, as I prefer Nero to Costa. Better looking baristas in Nero's too! Triple shot latte is my choice. Over Christmas it was gingerbread latte - yum!
Iain.Faulkner Posted January 14, 2015 Posted January 14, 2015 We have a Starbucks on site....there's no way I could give up coffee :-)
