Last day at work before Christmas yesterday.

Last Chair of Governors duty this morning at the school Christmas service, so not exactly onerous. :)

Merry Christmas and a Happy 2014 to one and all. :)

What's wrong with Xmas?

Horrible unecessary truncation of a word

So there

Sorry to be pedantic but that's incorrect. It is a common misconception though.

The New Testament was written in Koine Greek where the name of Christ is written as Χριστος.

It was traditional to write the name of Christ as X. This carried on with with the traditional way of writing the day Christ was born on as Xmas.

The movement against writing Xmas is actually quite a recent thing.

Some sources:

Keeping the “X” in Xmas: it’s not some secular conspiracy

Christmas or XMAS

Well I don't care whether it is XMas or Christmas - I hope you all have a good one and enjoy your two weeks with whoever you have around you. Time goes so quickly so we need to enjoy it and not worry about words.

Just sit back and relax.

Merry Christmas/XMas everyone.

Even if it was traditional then, nowadays people write it as a short form as I think the average person doesnt know about the Greek letter X, do they?

Wishing you all the best of the season (whatever you call it ;p) Spend time with those you love, and raise a glass to those that can't be with you.

Well, I hope standards are never dictated by the 'average' or even the 'majority'.

And while I might be a miserable old Scottish git, my sincere thanks to everyone on Edugeek for the education and entertainment over the last year. I hope you all have a fantastic holiday.
