If you are what made you move from Windows 7?

Hyper-v was one. 2 so i can get used to it. We are looking to deploy out to everyone else. Works well on the touch screens around school.

Yeah my new work laptop came with it. Wanted to check it out and get used to it for the future. As above hyper-v is useful.

Major hassle updating from 8 to 8.1 which still isn't resolved as it won't activate :-( the rollout of 8.1 is so badly handled.

 

Still prefer Linux on my work desktop :-)

Yes, I'm using it albeit with StartIsBack so it's actually usable as a desktop operating system for a machine with a keyboard and mouse and screens 3' away from the user (i.e. me).

 

I'm using it because we're running a few Server 2012 boxes and it makes it easier to manage those without having to remote to them. Server Manager in 8/2012 is actually worth having.

I'm using 8.1. I like how it handles two monitors and it has a bunch of neat features built in, like mounting ISOs

We had Windows 8 come on a bunch of new laptops and desktops. We downgraded to Windows 7. I can see it being a major problem for some staff who will not understand how to use it!

Had 8.1 on my machine, randomly kept getting Network Disconnections and nothing but a restart would fix the issue. I have now formatted my machine and running Fedora. No more problems

I'm using 8.1 on my work machine, internet explorer crashes every day without fail, thankfully chrome does not. I'm using 8.1 as we have a new school build in 18 months and I'm floundering around trying to decide what devices to recommend we buy and what OS to put on them

Been running Windows 8.1 on my workstation since the Preview was released (have since redone my station with RTM). I really like it as do most of my coworkers. Now that we have upgraded our KMS server we are actually deploying Windows 8.1 to some staff and faculty now and they are really liking it too.

I've noticed quite a few of our Dell laptops and desktops have newer BIOS/Firmware updates that specifically address network connectivity issues with Windows 8.1. You might try checking your manufacturer for a newer one.

Windows 8.1 is a good OS. I now prefer the start to the Windows 7 start.

Any how I am starting to deploy it to the rest of the network now. My take on this is that if the students can go in to PC World and get a computer using the latest OS then we should have it on our desktops in schools as I feel its a dis-service to not be as current as possible, although with my network head on I also have to think of my and the other guys in my departments sanity so have delayed this OS install until now!

If the network drops out, why are you deploying it?

Good question gmonks, only happens on the HP that me and my network admin have on our desk and we can live with it! I am sure we could work it out on our computers if we really wanted. Tested on our other computers and we have not had the same issue else you are correct it would not be deployed!

That was going to be my next question! But at least the other machines don't have the problem.

I installed 8.1 a few weeks ago due to a faulty hard drive, so far so good. My colleague also installed it at the same time but has now reverted back to Win 7, I think I will stick with it and just adapt even though it is a little frustrating at times.

Faster, simpler (after a short time), faster (yes I said it twice), way better for tablets/touch.

 

On new deploys now, looking to push sitewide at two sites next year.

just installed it on a touchscreen in nursery as a test in a different school. Will upgrade my main test school to al least 6 dual boot (got to love vhd's) pcs (1 bank of the suite) as the kids now all but fight to use the 2 I currently have their on 8.1

Deployed 8.1 Enterprise to the PCs in our office - was quite surprised at how quickly I adapted to the new interface considering I had spent the last year believing the negative hype surrounding how Metro didn't make any sense on a desktop without a touch interface. The rest of the team quite like it too.

 

Started to write some 8.1-specific GPOs and push out the occasional test PC to users but after a few false starts I have decided to halt that for the moment and concentrate on getting a few servers to 2012 R2 first - features introduced in 8 / 2012 such as SMB3 need it at both ends to see the improvement realised by moving.
