Time to download me thinks :)

This is a really simple question but I haven't found a simple answer!

Does anyone know if you have Windows 8 already installed whether you can install it over the top like a service pack rather than flattening and reinstalling?

Yes, you can. I did it a couple of weeks ago, no problem.

I don't use Metro though so I don't know if it'll bugger up your modern apps or not.

/edit Just to clarify, I downloaded the 8.1 Enterprise ISO from MSDN a couple of weeks ago and upgraded using that.

That's how it worked with the preview so I assume so, yes. Not sure whether it's being released via the Store (as per the preview) or Windows Update though - anybody got an answer on that one?

It's supposed to be via the store - can't find it yet though

Ah, maybe they're prioritizing surfaces first for the store?

Store. :)

Connected through to my home PC. Go into the Store (If you have UAC disabled, it will complain about needing it enabled to load the Store!!!) and it's the first huge tile saying Windows 8.1 Available. Currently downloading - 3.91GB!

Some editions of Windows 8 don’t support the free update to Windows 8.1. These include:

Windows 8 Enterprise

Editions of Windows 8 Pro that are installed by enterprises using KMS activation

Editions of Windows 8 that are installed using an MSDN ISO, and activated using multiple activation keys

If you’re running one of these editions, you can't install the free update to Windows 8.1 or Windows RT 8.1 from the Store.

If you installed Windows 8 using an MSDN ISO, you might be able to install Windows 8.1 using a similar ISO from MSDN.

Otherwise, you might be able to perform a clean install. For more info, see Update to Windows 8.1: FAQ.

Maybe a silly question, but is there any way to view the download detail progress of an update in the store? If I hover over it, I can see 16% but not speed, eta etc.
