We are soon moving house can someone recommend me a good isp we can't get fibre yet but are due to in the next few months. I have been looking at PlusNet, BT, Sky, Talk Talk. We are currently with BT but when we stream films around 9 it buffers a lot but I suspect this is because its a peak time.

We have BT Infinity at home and I can honestly say I've never had to buffer anything since we've got it. Even when I have the PC on downloading stuff at ridiculous speeds we can still stream HD content through the telly with no problems.

 

I also have a friend who works for PlusNet & he swears by them (no suprises there!) But he does get 80mbit at home and has no problems.

parents have got PlusNet, no problems with them. They have delivered the services on time.

 

Im with talktalk. No problems either, but like with everything, once someone has had a problem with an ISP, they stay away from it.

 

Using own routers too as the ones they give out are carp.

I had Force9 (Plusnet) and had it for many years without a single issue. Their tech support was excellent on the few rare occasions that I needed it, even sent me a new router FoC. I moved over to BT in order to a) get the advantage of free wifi for my phone when out and about and free BT Sport. I have found absolutely nothing to complain about. In fact, when I changed from F9 to BT, there was a significant difference in speed with BT being around 10meg quicker than my F9 account.

Good point there! I love having free BT Sport so if you like that sort of thing BT / Virgin are the way to go

Plusnet is actually BT with a different badge.

 

I use Zen at home (work pay for it) with its 1 to 1 contention it doesn't matter if you only get 5-10mb down as it is yours and you are not sharing with anybody else.

 

It is a little more expensive than the rest but well worth it.

 

They are also soon going to be doing fibre broadband without the need for line rental. Plus there's is 3 quid cheaper than bt/sky.

They are a BT company sure but with their own call centres etc.... used to be with them years ago and it was great until I needed support and then they were just as useless and kept me forever waiting to talk to someone as everyone else.

 

Currently with BT for phone and BB yes had problems but free to call them and I harrang them until it's sorted.

After switching to BT infinity we have never had any problems downloading, uploading or streaming its been beautiful

I can't believe so many people are with bt I not a techy ISP like Andrews and Arnold or Zen.

We don't stream films, so download speed not critical. A bit out in the sticks so can't hope for too much in the way of speed anyway. Been with BT for many years including a house move. No problems bar just the one where their HomeHub decided to sulk; I tried the obvious things then rang helpdesk. Phone answered nearly instantly, really helpful, explained the very hidden reset switch, all hunky dory. Also really hapy with their FON service - have used quite a number of hotspots with no problems either, both with laptops and smartphones.

 

I have no idea whether I'd get a better service from any other ISP, but I have no incentive to change!

I can't get fibre, Only ADSL 2. But I have found Sky are the best. I have been with BT and a 3rd party company, and it has never been as good as Sky's service. Sky was always the same speed, with others they limit you at times.

PlusNet, been with them since 2003 when I was on dialup, cannot fault them and will be going with them when I move too.

Used to be with business online think it was years ago for dialuo via an 0800 number and billed to my cc used to spend £80 pm.

Sky in my area are fudging terrible. The connection is less than half of what it says, and that's if it's even there at all! I used to be on them, and a friend still is, and constantly complains about it.

Plusnet are no better, I hear. But admittedly have had zero experience with them, good or bad.

 

Let's not even mention TalkTalk

 

I, however, have an Orange/EE fibre line. Whilst their tech support isn't outstanding, I've had a solid 38 meg minimum every time I've done a speed test (40MB line) and the router is completely 'unlocked' so I can config anything I want. No download caps or throttling, either. I didn't even have to pay one of those stupid connection fees! Very happy to stay with them.
