Hardware recycling ... anyone out there that pays to take old stuff away?!

Hi,

I have searched through some threads about disposing of old computers and printers and indeed have found a couple of companies who will take it away for free - but I wondered if there are any companies out there that would pay some money for all this old stuff (perhaps to then recycle it and sell it on themselves?).

 

For instance, I have a couple of old laser printers which still work but might need a bit of pampering to get them up to scratch ...

 

Has anyone made a few pennies for their school from selling old kit?

I'd say it's unlikely - if it's worth much you're best off using eBay if you're allowed, for instance. The days of recyclers paying to come take things (or paying for stuff they've been able to sell on, without an initial fee) is pretty much long gone. I say this as someone who used to work doing that exact thing, being a pioneer in the UK and watching it go bust.

Been using this company for years, collect free of charge. Full asset management and online tracking. Total HDD destruction or full secure erasure. Cash back for items depending on age/condition of equipment; scrap value for non-working items. Plus they collect and take most IT items inc projectors, bulbs, tape media etc.

There is a company in doncaster called enviroelectrics who collects to take equipment away if the spec is any good.

I'm in Essex and use Computer Recycling : GB Asset Solutions Ltd they are happy to take any item even old tvs and toners.

I am in the South East too and use expired IT. WEEE computer, laptop and printer recycling and disposal for Kent, Hamphire, Surrey and Sussex. never charged us and are a friendly bunch. Would recommend.

Yeah, they talked to us too. The problem is that the spec they would pay for (core 2 duo, 2gb, 160gb) still had 3+ years life in our network at the time we talked.

Ah, well we have just got rid of p4 2.8ghz and 3.0ghz machines so will see ehat we get back from them.

Hi we are just getting into rubbish removal so these items are bound to be part of our business, we are researching how best to recycle all rubbish collected and we will post our findings when the research is complete.

Finding this nearly impossible at the moment!

My old school used to use a company called Recycool for their toner collection. Not sure if they're still going?

Ended up using Recycle4Charity.co.uk in the end, the staff we so helpful and were able to arrange a collection the next day!
