Well, we're an academy and my IT budget has been frozen until next year unfortunately. :(

Yep - its unfortunate that IT is always the first to feel the pinch.

What's ridiculous is the educational pricing lasts until about September, then it's back to normal.

Way to go, having an offer through the biggest school break of the year.

A lot of schools who have IT in over the summer do their annual hardware purchasing around that time despite getting budgets earlier. This was certainly the case in my last school (which was still a maintained school at the time) and a number of others we worked with in the area.

For Academies and Independents that run with the academic year, ordering in August means payment will probably go out in early September so still counts as next year's budget.

I've spent up for the year unfortunately, however it may just be us but unless the invoice says September on it, it will count in the previous financial year and so I'd be overspent.

Where can these be brought from, is it the usual channels? (preferred suppliers etc?)

Microsoft.

Damn we only brought 100 about 1 month ago http://staticc2.cdngeek.net/images/smilies/frown.png, means we could have got a lot more

Return them?

OK, has anyone actually tried ordering them, I have emailed 2 different sets to them, (1 set for us to test and 16 for our Teaching Assistants to replace their 5 year old Netbooks) I received an email back from the first about the delay, and nothing else, no order processed emails or enquiries, and nothing for the 2nd order from Friday. Not feeling the confidence right now and do you think you can contact any of them by phone.

Yep - tried to order a few and no reply whatsoever. Frankly I don't think I'll bother to chase it up...

A slight good news,

I sent an email to [email protected] after a phone conversation with a very use rep on the phone and have received a response, they are saying 10 days lead time, but I have replied about the no confirmation. Thought it may be a bit useful for you lot :-)

I had an initial response on the 27th after ordering the day before which included this:

Order Process:

We are processing orders and responding to inquiries as quickly as possible and we appreciate your patience. As your order enters the first stage of the fulfillment process, you will receive a confirmation email which may include questions and order clarifications. We will then work to process your order as quickly as possible.

I haven't had the aforementioned confirmation email yet.

Talking to Anthony Nneke from Microsoft tells me that the email is case sensitive and it should be [email protected] I guess they have a special filter rule?

Annoying much,

As replying to one email puts it all in lowercase, so have to retype the address and kill the auto fill.

I don't believe that for a second.

For start, Microsoft surely must use Exchange internally, and Exchange addresses are not case sensitive. I don't think it's even possible to create a transport rule that is case sensitive.

Secondly, I sent mine to [email protected] all in lowercase and got a response.

I ordered 7 and got the basic response. Not great really as the end of the financial year is about to hit so need to spend the cash now or start the new year in debt. :( Im going on twitter later on the hassle them.

I have a message on my voicemail about it, I hassled the education uk team, apparently it is a 17 working day delivery from confirmation of the order, but I have not had confirmation of the order, just a standard email about making sure the form is filled out.

I would be careful with this offer, they are giving windows RT machines away at their partner conference as well.

Stinks of trying to remove old stock to me, of a failed operating system.
