Hi

I've been asked to look in to putting some large screen displays (the request was for TV's), to display power point and excel files with updating information etc.

 

I've seen systems where they are controlled by central server and use the network to send data/images to the displays, does anyone have a recommendations/experance of them

We use Xibo, its very good and so do a lot of other people here.

Showpoint add-on for powerpoint did for us with some old PCs running PowerPoint connected to the screens tucked away in broom cupboards etc....

Revo PC's plugged into TVs running Ubuntu, cron job checks to see if a text file is present for that display screen, if it isn't it copies the latest video and starts the video. Quick and easy way to manage the screens.

Rasberry Pi is a good option as CyberNerd pointed!all depends on what solution you need.

We have Samsung TVs with USB. We create a powerpoint and convert it to video 2010 does this and put it on a usb stick. Easy and cheap.

Our signage came free with the Planet eStream system that we purchased a few years ago, an advantage over xibo is its easier for non technical users to use. But obviously there is cost involved, if you are lucky you may already have it!

Hi, we use planet esign that comes with the planet estream too. We were using onelan but the esign is well easier to use and cheaper.

I would suggest the best way to achieve this is to employ a digital signage solution that will sit on the network. This is something we use in the offices. It will allow various types of content to be streamed (live websites, video, powerpoint, excel files, RSS feeds, images etc.) to the unit and will require the purchasing of a signage player (basically a stripped back PC) and a screen. Updates are simple to create and publish out to the screens. There are various solutions on offer and we are happy to recommend something if you would like us to get in touch with you.
