robk Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 We currently host our domain and website with Capta IT Services which we need to move or both cost and reliability reasons. The site is a secondary school website so does attract a reasonable level of traffic on snow days etc so reliability is the key. I am interested to know who uses who, and would they recommend them to us?
imunro01 Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 We use EUKhost - always found them reliable and reasonably priced
gpjt Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 We use Fasthosts who are reliable and reasonably priced.
Netman Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 You'll find a lot of people here will recommend CS New Media Web Hosting - UK Based Web Hosting, Reseller Hosting, VPS & Dedicated Servers - excellent service and support...
ZeroHour Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 What do you need to run? asp or php? any databases? Is it a recent site? If not is it php 5.4 safe as 1 & 1 are now 5.4 I believe. How much traffic do you receive on the peaks? How much is your approx monthly budget?
mattianuk Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 Vidahost - cracking price and reliable service with top notch support.
creese Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 Vidahost - cracking price and reliable service with top notch support. Totally agree. I have just moved to them. The backed up my old sites and copied them across, answered a few simple questions quickly. All for £140 for 3 years. 1&1 was costing me up to £40 a month.
IrritableTech Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 I use vidahost's cloud server offering for my personal domains (would it be wrong to pop an affiliate link in ). Really pleased with the level of service and bang for buck. At School we use SeeGreen who also designed our website. Nothing bad to say about them really.

How much traffic do you receive on the peaks? How much is your approx monthly budget? One mysql database, less than 5Gb storage space. Bandwidth use not excessive, we cant currently get into cpanel to look (one of the reasons to move).
bshingler Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 http://www.34sp.com they aer good, manchester based and uk helpdesk.
Jobos Posted December 19, 2014 Posted December 19, 2014 (edited) Old thread so thought I'd ask here to see if there were any updates on this as I'm thinking of moving my schools hosting to Vidahost. Just has a look around their website and it looks good as do their pricing. Capita are hosting our site at present and been told its costing best part £300 pa so moving to Vidahost would make a big difference. Of course the real reason I want to move is to get a site that's reliable as with Capita I'm tearing my hair out. https://www.vidahost.com/cloud-web-hosting Edited December 19, 2014 by Jobos Added link
creese Posted December 19, 2014 Posted December 19, 2014 I would still highly recommend Visahost. Their service is excellent. And will cost much less than £300 a year.

Out of interest which package are you using? I see their starter package at £29 would do us as our Joomla site is less than 100MB when I run a backup and we don't need anywhere near 25GB of bandwidth either.
rush_tech Posted December 19, 2014 Posted December 19, 2014 another +1 for vidahost we are on their medium cpanal package as we use more than 25Gb bandwidth a month. Can't fault the support, very helpful.

creese Posted December 19, 2014 Posted December 19, 2014 I'm on the medium package. I have 12 sites running at this time.
rush_tech Posted December 19, 2014 Posted December 19, 2014 That's the cloud package, we are on the cpanal(legacy) package I think we will move onto the cloud package when renewal time comes around
Arthur Posted December 19, 2014 Posted December 19, 2014 We use Fasthosts who are reliable and reasonably priced. I wouldn't describe them as reliable any more. Fasthosts goes titsup after storm-induced power outage Holy cow! Fasthosts outage blamed on DDoS hack attack AND Windows 2003 vuln

Looking good so far. Crapita failed again. Today.
Jobos Posted December 19, 2014 Posted December 19, 2014 We have just started moving to them. Looking good so far. Crapita failed again. Today. It was awful today and at times I had myself convinced someone had pored treacle in the router! Seriously though I've been having problems with Capita's web hosting for a while now and this week has been really bad. At times our site was taking 25 seconds to refresh or I was getting http 504 errors. I've convinced myself to move hosting now and started the ball rolling.
Edu-IT Posted December 20, 2014 Posted December 20, 2014 We use Tsohost, who are owned by same people as Vidahost. If you are a school you can get 50% off in year 1 with a voucher code.
rob_coles Posted December 20, 2014 Posted December 20, 2014 Used Eukhost in the past really good uk based hosting
