synaesthesia Posted April 15, 2013 Posted April 15, 2013 Thankfully they say it's being kept mostly separate, so you won't notice an immediate heading to failure like what was apparent with EMBC (imo). MLS have always been good, some of their partners are of dubious quality though.

john Posted April 15, 2013 Posted April 15, 2013 Letters were sent out last week as I got mine mid-week saying they have sold to Capita, so I'd expect you to need SIMS within a year or two and a module to follow oh and the SIMS integration stuff to become 10x more expensive as will the main product to match the rest of the portfolio. I am horrified by what the products from them cost, MLS is expensive enough as it is (I know our finance team are EEK over it as the renewal came in and was more than the library budget apparently!!) so further rises will not be appreciated. One thing I hope they don't do is change the support as it is excellent and I only have good words for the team at MLS for support.

Sorry @PhilNeal but IEP Writer is appallingly bad. It is basically a piece of software written in 2004, and then wedged into SIMS - or it seems that way. It could be SO much better, properly integrated as a module. Instead, it causes our staff so many issues! I'd be happy if that happened, to say the least.
matt40k Posted April 16, 2013 Posted April 16, 2013 Don't think there has been much demand for IEP weirdly, I seem to remember someone at Capita showing me some mock ups which looks really good, but they never really turned into anything more. I'd though the idea was you buy a company then merge it into your existing product quickly thus getting any customers that was using a rival system with it that are now forced to look else where or move to your main cash cow product. It'll be interesting to see how they deal with library software - could be quite interesting seeing the integration with SLG and the learning platform they've got now - would put them in a good position to move to a Azure (cloud) based system and go toe to toe with another MIS system - oh what's there name? Oh... Umm... @GREED, any ideas

Knowing I know competitor numbers too, we are very comparable. Considering too we have never, ever had a customer move away from Aspen, I like our retention rate just as much! How about 30m students in 148 countries being reached via Follett software platforms. Appreciate the excuse to boast

It might not seem that way because I am very passionate about Aspen and it's abilities, but I still have huge respect for SIMS, what it does and how well it does in the market.
