Danp Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 (edited) Anyone else been using this yet? I am trying it out been so far have found a couple of snags, RMVP5.1 installs but does not talk back to the server and will only update via Liveupdate. Edited April 10, 2013 by Danp
nickbro Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 Got it in our main ICT suites, and it works brilliantly, but we use Sophos as our AV. The only other issue is SIMS SOLUS3, had to install that manually on the pcs where it'd be needed. The other issue is any custom scripts that reference specific folders, ie. for our custom Wallpapers, basically you have to overwrite some of the GPOs and have custom msi installers to install into the correct folder in c:\
rad Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 How have you installed it. I got told its still in dev and will be released in summer.
clareq Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 Win7 x64 was released by RM last half term. I've spent the last half term making sure we have all the drivers in place, and re-building any packages that are available in 64bit (photoshop was the main one). We'll be rolling it out site wide over the summer.
nickbro Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 I was on the field trial, but Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (64-bit) for Community Connect 4 1
HarryMonkey Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 W7 64 Bit has been out for some time now, ... DWN2852249 1
nickbro Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 RM did send an email out telling people to stop deploying it until a new software patch comes out though, UPD139

9 April 2013

Important information about the Windows 7 SP1 64-bit download for CC4 We have identified an issue with the Windows 7 SP1 64-bit product which we are working to address with CC4UPD139. Sylv3r Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 We also field trialled it. No issues from us in the one suite we tested it on.

Danp Posted April 10, 2013 Author Posted April 10, 2013 I have machines building fine so far only from build disk as I did not want to load any extra drivers to the build area. The only issues I have found so far is CS4 not installing correctly, but I am happy to just hit run on auto install for now while I work on a proper package and RMVP5.1. Yes, I have installed the 64bit package of RMVP5.1

nickbro Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 Odd, wonder how I got that email then . Hope you enjoyed the Brecon Beacons Nation Park. Hmm, side note 2: Pressing enter in the WYSIWYG editor doesn't seem to do anything in IE10 Metro, had to switch the editor to source mode @Dos_Box

I too have seen enter not working in IE10 unless it's in compatibility mode.
nickbro Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 Glad it's not just me there. Does anybody know how much the Windows 8 Smartclient Costs? I was told we could just have it, since I'd be testing it out on existing, CC4 licensed PCs I should think RM should just give it to us. Mainly want it for my Office PC, having Windows 8 on all my other pc's, having to go back to Windows 7 is actually a PITA

It's not appearing on mine though
nickbro Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 Same here, not available there, I contact RM and they said that I'd have to buy it

Tallwood_6 Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 Win 8 smartclient is freely available for CC4.2 and CC4.3 networks that have a valid support contract and the download IS supposed to appear under My Account- Product Downloads, does for me anyway and we are not field trialing it although its concieveable they may be staggering it, give support a call and i'm sure they can sort it. Windows 8 build will only be available for those who have ordered CC4.4 and requires a 2008r2 Forest Root when its eventually released.

Think I will wait for the summer before I roll it out.
Tallwood_6 Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 The update does require quite a lengthy core update of all the machines, its taken us about 4 days to do the whole site and inevitably you get a small number that require a complete rebuild.

Tallwood_6 Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 Nope its a chargeable part unless you have pre licenced for it or have a CC4 subscription (not purchased outright), should be user installable i think.
Edu-IT Posted April 11, 2013 Posted April 11, 2013 Information about the issue with Windows 7 x64 on the email bulletin was quite vague. Anyone know the actual issue?
Danp Posted April 12, 2013 Author Posted April 12, 2013 From RM Our recent communications to you about an issue with Windows 7 SP1 64-bit download for CC4 may have caused some confusion. We are working on a fix for a particular issue that ONLY affects Terminal Server computers if they are Core Upgraded. Other computers are not affected and can be core upgraded or rebuilt in the usual way. Apologies for any confusion this may have caused. CC4UPD139 (which includes a fix for this Terminal Server issue and some bug fixes) is currently in validation and should be available soon. We recommend that you DO NOT core upgrade Terminal Servers until this is released and installed on your network. Hilary Wright Product Manager
