Geoff Posted March 25, 2013 Posted March 25, 2013 CivNet. It's Civ 1 for Windows and had me addicted from since I was a kid. Shame I can't run it anymore, took a long time to get to grips with mind you! Most stuff I learned by accident. The Freeciv Wiki - Mods, coding, art, and more
Sunnyknight Posted March 25, 2013 Author Posted March 25, 2013 Age of empires 2 - HD remake coming out in a couple of weeks....! Can - not - wait!
sonofsanta Posted March 25, 2013 Posted March 25, 2013 I would say Ocarina of Time, but recently slogging through Skyward Sword has me doubting that. Maybe Skies of Arcadia? So good I bought it twice, and finished it about half a dozen times. But then Duke Nukem 3D ate about a year of my teenage life, what with the Build editor to play with, and Red Alert did similar (with rules.ini to tweak). The Witcher & The Witcher 2 are the best RPGs I've ever played (certainly the latter). Stalker: Shadow of Chernobyl (with the LURK mod) is the best FPS experience I've ever had, for atmosphere and terror and sheer Russian bleakness. Stars! is perhaps the strategy game that has stolen the most hours from me, but what about the Civs? Super Smash Brothers: Melee filled many a long night at Uni, as did Mario Kart: Double Dash, but do I remember them fondly for the game or for the context in which I played them? If we go by hours invested then it's Eve - which for two years was long stretches of boredom for occasional, unparalleled thrills. If we go for best experience, it's either Fight Night Round 3 or Dead or Alive 2 (I think, PS2 anyway), which both allowed me to have incredible, evenly-matched bouts with friends for one brief evening apiece. In summary: I love too many to choose
ICTDirect_Dave Posted March 25, 2013 Posted March 25, 2013 Dead or Alive 2 Good god how did I forget DOA? DOA 4 is IMHO the best fighter there has ever been! There was no need to update it on the 360 as it did everything it needed! Never have I had fights of such beauty & complexity!
aerospacemango Posted March 25, 2013 Posted March 25, 2013 I KNOW I am dating myself now, but nothing could ever beat................. Elite Still, for me, the best game there has been. I look forward to the re-boot, but cannot imagine it will ever generate the same feelings in me that the original did. A truly epic game, packed into 48k of Spectrum memory! 1

Koldov Posted March 25, 2013 Posted March 25, 2013 (edited) Hmmmmm, I also played with Lara Croft... A LOT!!! Maybe a bit too much Yeah, I forgot the consoles... Tekken! Then on the C64 hmmmmm.... R-Type, maybe or Manic Miner (frustrating!) Still have it in the loft! I also had what must be like the first mini-arcade style game for the home... Galaxy 2 And a similar one that I'm sure was a horizontally scolling version... Kol Edited March 25, 2013 by Koldov
Disease Posted March 25, 2013 Posted March 25, 2013 To Expand: Green Beret and Elite on Spectrum ( I still remember copying the entire Lens Lok code book by hand.) Uridium on C64 Ultima Online on PC
pete Posted March 25, 2013 Posted March 25, 2013 I spent a lot of time playing Ikari Warriors & Cybernoid as a kid in the time before those new-fangled savegames. G-Police on the PS1 was pretty cool. But the games I keep coming back to are the Elder Scrolls series. Mainly because you're walking along on a quest to save the Kangaroo of Justice (or whatever) and you spot something intriguing in the distance and before you know it you've spent a couple of hour investigating and the Kangaroo's starved to death.
Dos_Box Posted March 25, 2013 Posted March 25, 2013 Has to be Elite, closely followed by anything Half Life.
JJonas Posted March 25, 2013 Posted March 25, 2013 Elite (the 128K Spectrum version didnt have lens lok) Chaos (he is working on a remake) Star Wars Knights of the old Republic the story line was better than the first three films combined
Meldrew Posted March 25, 2013 Posted March 25, 2013 Has to be Elite, closely followed by anything Half Life. Agreed. Still keeping the candle burning for HL3. Also spent many hours playing Exile on BBC Master. First time I heard speech from my computer if I remember correctly.
Garacesh Posted March 25, 2013 Posted March 25, 2013 Thinking about it, Total Annihilation: Kingdoms definitely has to be on there, too. As well as DOTA 2 fast becoming one of them. So I'm on UT99, FF8, Uplink, TA:K and DOTA2 so far. I'm sure I'll add more.
Geoff Posted March 25, 2013 Posted March 25, 2013 For all you Elite fans I hope you're aware of OOlite? Oolite
